Steven Seagal, the Hollywood action star, has been enlisted by a controversial Arizona sheriff to give guns and martial arts training to a civilian "posse" used to guard schools.

At a suburban Phoenix school, Seagal guided 48 volunteers on how to respond to a mass shooting, with children acting as stand-ins for frightened students.

To add realism to the training event, guns firing non-lethal rounds that leave a colour mark were used. The volunteers were also showed how to conduct room-to-room searches.

Seagal, 60, said: "I am here to try to teach the posse firearms and martial arts to try to help them learn how to respond quicker and help protect our children."

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who styles himself as "America's toughest sheriff," has been dispatching the posse to guard schools in in response to the the shooting rampage that killed 20 children and six adults at a school in Newtown, Connecticut in December.

The 3,450-strong force of unpaid men and women has for years been used to target drunken drivers and illegal immigrants.

Volunteers, some trained and qualified to carry the same guns as sheriff's deputies, can intervene if there is an imminent threat to life.
Seagal has previously lived in the area and been a member of the posse.
In the 1980s and early 1990s he starred in big budget films like "Under Siege" and Above the Law."
About a dozen people protested the event. Local resident Cynthia Wharton said: "No gun should ever be in a school."

April 14, 2010 Sheriff Norm Newell of Jefferson Parish responds to the civil lawsuit filed against reserve JPSO Deputy actor Steven Seagal, who had been living in the area while filming the Lawman

On April 14, 2010, The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office announced that production of second season episodes had been halted due to a lawsuit filed against Steven Seagal on April 12, 2010 by his former personal assistant, Kayden Nguyen. Nguyen claimed Seagal committed sexual harassment, illegally trafficked women for sex, failed to prevent sexual harassment, retaliated against her, wrongly terminated her employment, and made false representations about her employment. Nguyen also alleges that she was also asked to join Seagal's harem, which included two Russian women; Nguyen was to be a replacement.[10] On April 13, 2010, Seagal's attorney Marty Singer, said that the lawsuit was "... a ridiculous and absurd claim by a disgruntled ex-employee who was fired."[11][12] Nguyen sued for over one million dollars.[13]

Law enforcement work

Seagal is currently a Reserve Deputy Chief of the Sheriff's Office in the community of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Seagal has a second home in Louisiana, and spends several months a year there.[18] He graduated from a police academy in California over twenty years ago[citation needed] and has a certificate from Peace Officer Standards & Training[citation needed] (POST), an organization that accredits California police officers. In November 2008, A&E announced that they had begun taping Steven Seagal: Lawman, which follows his work in the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. The series premiered on A&E on December 2, 2009. Seagal stated that "I’ve decided to work with A&E on this series now because I believe it’s important to show the nation all the positive work being accomplished here in Louisiana—to see the passion and commitment that comes from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in this post-Katrina environment." The series premiere drew 3.6 million viewers, ranking as best season opener for any original A&E series ever.[19]

On April 14, 2010, the series was suspended by Jefferson Parish, Louisiana Sheriff Newell Normand due to the sexual trafficking lawsuit filed against Seagal, a case later dropped.[20] A&E resumed the show for the second season which began on October 6, 2010.

The need to recruit Seagal to go after Dorner. If no that, maybe they can do a movie based on it where Seagal is some type of alphabet government agent chasing down Dorner and his gang of terrorists.
