Seriously, web developers http://www.nc49.org/

That sounds like a good plan to me. vB4 is pretty nice. It would also save on a LOT of web development, since the structure is already there.

OK my DNS is managed remotely from the host, so I need a DNS expert to set up my DNS on one service, and then someone else who can set up configure, and maintain the vB4 on the host. I have funds to buy vB4 but I need the setup and management in place before I commit to purchase donor funds.

For DNS, since my DNS is managed at a different service, I need to set up MX hops and everything custom. I'm frankly in a wilderness. Getting us in working order here would be so helpful, and it would allow the vB4 to proceed rightly.

The voting record and upcoming votes app and the virtual caucus are being addressed. the vB4 is the frame this will all be organized in to the front of the domain.

I can help with whatever you need. I have lots of experience with this stuff (I run my own web hosting company www.atomicpages.net). vB4 is really nice software and is really easy to use and maintain.

I should be able to do that. I may need a little help with configuring it, and I'm not sure the frequency I'd be able to maintain it, but I can try to see what I can do. I've done it once before for my own site, but this would be a bit more complex so I'll have to see what I can come up with. I can set up the DNS and install vB no problem, that's the easy part.

This is how I set up my forum, though vB4 will be a bit different: http://www.classiceqpetition.com/forum/index.php

The DNS is my most critical need right now. One company is managing my domain with full custom DNS, another is my IP host. I want to be able to enable MX email etc. email [email protected] and I will pass along access to my DNS host a third way.

the splash page is slowly taking shape.

Joomla broke on my DNS when I had my DNS all messed up so I uninstalled it. Yieu helped me get my DNS perfected, so now I am looking at the overall content manager. I am pretty much decided on vB4 because I will be leaning on people here to help with content, and we all know vB pretty well. I love what you can do with Joomla, but I am prioritizing quality of content over quality of finish.

Once we are verified at each operational level, I will be handing off vB4 to an installer to take over the host on that domain. That's when the fun begins and we get to start adding and fine tuning content.

I have a basic outline up at the domain address right now laying out roughly what I want to see there for the time being.

Hmm, I'm not familiar with Joomla, but the site said it's CMS. vB4 is also CMS, so what would the need be to have two of them? Shouldn't vB4 handle it all?

I'm thinking of subdomains re-presenting the same basic data.

What exactly are you doing with the website? vBulletin might be over kill unless you definitely want a forum. I'm experienced in running vB4 forums if you need help.

I'm thinking of subdomains re-presenting the same basic data eventually.

Make one subdomain for constituent services targeted to helping the people I represent. another subdomain purposed for outreach activists targeted to getting the message out, another subdomain for the virtual caucus, results of which publish to all domains.

So have a core vB4 owning the root domain, and then sometime build a Joomla face over the core data, targeted to each audience per subdomain. Eventually you have four or 5 whole sites built around a single core of data maintained by the domain level service manager.

This will lead also to building the bradley12.nc49.org subdomain for campaign 2012

So you have one core group of volunteers maintaining a wide dataset on vB4, and that data is selectively re-presented for purpose-driven subdomains, including an eventual campaign for 2012 website.

quick joomla mockup using artisteer

Joomla may be faster and more cost effective. I have not bought vB4 yet, but I can install Joomla for free.
