Serious Question: Do You Think This Forum Is Being Watched By Our Government?

I've had some serious doubts lately as to our safety as individuals when we post the kind of anti-government ideas that we post on this site.

If the Feds wanted to go after anyone, for taxes, guns, anything...one of the prime places would be forums like these where there are so many people talking about freedom.

Am I being too paranoid? Or is this something we should seriously think about?

what are you afraid of if you're not doing anything illegal?

anybody who brags about his illegal behavior deserves to be harassed.

You'd need to post some seriously serious shit.

But sure -- I bet the gov't has been on here, investigating certain individuals for things like:

THE OBLITERATION OF THIS ENTIRE NATION WOULD BE A GREAT SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD!

This to me is not the correct view of Liberty that we should have.

There are more and more things that our government is making illegal that shouldn't be illegal.

This forum is 100% on the radar given its association with "Ron Paul" and "Liberty."

So what. I hope that our fellow citizens working for these agencies whether out of Virginia/DC or the SPLC down in Alabama "monitoring extremism" about discussions of moneybombs and health freedom actually learn something.

Don't live in fear and paranoia. Our forum guidelines already prohibit any statutorily illegal stuff. Maybe us bitching about them monitoring our GOTV and fundraising activities as opposed to monitoring actual terrorists trying to kill people will be a wake-up call to thoughtful employees earning a paycheck by surfing the internet and taking notes.

+ 1

"If you don't have anything to hide..." is the phrase govt always uses when trying to invade your privacy. (not that I am unaware this is a public forum)

think and say what you want, I'm not going to be arrested.

The Government is "watching" a great number of places, but that's a good thing to me. The better alternative would be, of course, for them not to "watch" places hoping for little fish and random crimes or, more often, precrimes. Given that this is not going to be the case, the more places the Government watches, the more "hits" they will get and have to sift through by hand. Go ahead, preoccupy yourselves double-checking to see if people on a political forum are paying their taxes. You can't simply take their word for it, though; you can't even take someone's word for it on their gender, age, religious affiliation, location, and so on, so it requires even more digging to figure out whether or not there's even a chance that their internet boasting has some basis in reality. In other words, it's a waste of time. Chase your tail, please, and that way you can't actually spend as much time prosecuting and persecuting.

I know that many political types do scan it for some specific key words. And I am willing to bet that our government aggregates it much in the same way as Carnivore or Echelon.

Don't worry about it. Recent news has verified that government goons spend most of their time online cruising for porn. As long as we remain porn-free, we should be in the clear. Although that recent gay-resort advertisement that was showing up here might have made a blip on their radar.

Quite right, but the truth is, I don't have anything to hide. As was so eloquently phrased by danno...

I'm with Cowsley. Let them come. Might turn a few heads on the inside.

good thing those ads were blocked.

Of course they're monitoring the forums. But why should we care?
