Senior Rand Paul campaign official says Trump 'is going to dive eventually'

I'm surprised Rand chose this strategy because up until last night he was trying very hard NOT to attack Trump. I think he changed his strategy out of desperation because he knew they were going to ignore him all night. Rand did the best he could under the circumstances, and overall it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great.

Maybe, just maybe, they recognized Trump was going to get all the prèss today. Perhaps Rand just wanted his name in the first few paragraphs of the story.

The other possibility is that Rand got desperate and didn't think straight, but he didn't damage himself much. The Christie exchange compensated for the mistake of the Trump exchange.

Rand should not go after Trump at all, except for his flip-flopping. The Trump supporters are the independent-minded voters who might support Rand.

I disagree. I think he should go after him constantly (punch up) in order to get more air time on the networks. It's all Trump, all the time currently. Might as well try to get a piece of that media exposure to talk about his detailed positions compared to Trump's non-existent ones.

He should also bring up the lies that Trump spouted during the debate. For example:

Trump had only donated $500 to Jeb Bush, $2,600 to Lindsey Graham and $10,000 to Walker. None of the other Republican candidates. He did donate $1,000 to Biden & $700 to Hillary.

I sure hope Rand is working the back channels with Trump. I could easily see Trump eventually saying something like, "I'm dropping out, but throwing my support to Rand Paul. Those other chumps were too afraid to even touch me, but Rand showed some guts. I have to respect that. He'd make a great President - not like those other losers. He's the only other one - besides me, of course - that will be able to beat Hillary."

as long as it is not by promising a Paul-Trump ticket lol

Rand could have rode the anti-establishment wave with Trump. They are the two candidates on the other side of the Republican establishment with the largest targets on their back. Now was not the time to attack Trump.

Ron was wise to strategically have an alliance with Romney. He just took it too far now we see his son go too far the opposite way.

Trump is praising Rubio today and slamming Rand. It could have been the other way around since that would have been Trump's most logical choice against the establishment before Rand's attacks.

finally some smart posters!!! it is campaign suicide for rand to keep going after trump. like i said in other threads... what part of trump's message is rand so upset with? immigration? exposing political correctness? not bending over backwards for the chinese? exposing the media pundits? exposing the true unemployment numbers? keeping a third party option open for when the gop commits election fraud? exposing the buying of politicians?

trump has just fired two judas goats from his campaign... i think rand needs to do the same and ron definitely should have in 2008/2012.

i would love it if rand won.... issue wise? he is by far the best. that said? 4.5% is horrific and considering how bad ron's campaign was in 2008/2012 i smell the same people making the decisions regarding strategy. at the local level? i am still shocked at how stupid they were.

The campaign is run by interns - lack of experience as they never had to win an argument with somebody who did not agree with them 100%

Unfortunately, Carly is the candidate that Rand should aspire to be.

Why would he waste his time aspiring to be the Fox Candidate of the Month Club Selection? It won't ever happen and everyone with a brain knows it. So, tell us how and why him wasting time and effort aspiring to it will help the people who yearn to breathe free. I dare you.
