Thank you for contacting me regarding the Read the Bills Act. I welcome your thoughts and comments on this issue.

The Read the Bills Act is a legislative proposal created by the organization Downsize DC. This legislation would require all bills to be read aloud in Congress, read by all Congressmen before they are voted upon, and published on the Internet at least 7 days before a vote. Congress would also be required to announce the date they will vote on the bill.

I assure you that in representing the people of Texas, I pay close attention to the legislative agenda and am always well informed about the issues being considered. Serving Texans well requires diligent scrutiny of the implications of each and every vote.

The legislative process in the Senate is complex and making additional requirements to read lengthy bills aloud on the Senate floor, or know the precise voting schedules in advance, could significantly hinder its ability to function practically or efficiently. Legislative texts and relevant information is available through the website www.thomas.gov. The Senate legislative calendar is also available through the website www.senate.gov. Should the Read the Bills Act be introduced in the Senate, you may be certain I will keep your views in mind.

I appreciate hearing from you and hope you will not hesitate to keep in touch on any issue of concern to you.

Sincerely,
Kay Bailey Hutchison

above is the email response i got from the senator!
it seems Reading s just to hard for them!
Too lazy to do her job!!!!!!
can you say Fiduciary Malfeason Senator Hutch

you sound surprised?

NO, I think the people in power do this purposely. I really dont think they are out to get the American people, I think they are to lazy to know what it is they are voting on which kills this country.

That's what the founding fathers intended when it comes to passing bills. They wanted it to be a long and painful process. Today, these officials are just looking ways to get around it. Since most Americans don't pay close attention to the things going on in the capitol hill, I think it's vital for a bill like this to pass. Americans today are simply preoccupied with other things in life.

I don't know if just reading the bills aloud would be all that affective..

I think we should formulate a "Bill Comprehension Act" which would require all members of congress to take a comprehension test regarding a bill's subject matter before they can vote on the bill. If they fail the comprehension test, they are not allowed to vote on the bill and a public record of the pass/fail record of bill comprehension should be made available.

What do you think?

Great idea, it would force them to write them short and concise, like the US constitution. They couldn't add all the loop holes then.

Man, what an irresponsible answer.

That woman needs to be voted out next term. She sucks and is part of the problems we have today.

right, it would make them think twice when they get the answer wrong. No bill would then be worded in a way that would work in someone's favor. We can all dream. :p

I have a feeling Kay Bailey Hutchison is going to be voted out of office. Everyone in Texas is starting to get very unhappy with her.

well, these are the people the people elect to REPRESENT THEIR STATES! You can contribute this to the voting public that are just stupid (majority) the informed voters are a minority, sorry.
