I think that Rand's instinct to fight back twice as hard works just fine.

A private meeting does what? Christie's not part of the federal government; he's state. And not part of legislature; he's executive.

Let it be in public on a national TV show. Our guy could win a lot of Christie fans and even a lot of Democrats with a quality debate in prime time.
