WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Rand Paul announced plans to introduce the Defend Our Capital Act of 2015 in the coming days. This legislation would remove existing restrictive firearm ownership laws in the District of Columbia, and require the District of Columbia to issue and grant reciprocity for concealed weapons permits for both residents and non-residents.

“For too long the Americans who live in and visit their nation’s capital have been prevented from defending themselves and their loved ones. No longer should our citizens have to choose between safety or visiting Washington, D.C.,” Sen. Paul said.

Top-line bullet points and background information for the Defend Our Capital Act of 2015 can be found below.

Another bill that won't pass.

Yep. This won't resonate w/ GOP primary voters in any sense of the word. Or will it? In lieu of a neg rep, I say this is quite powerful and will score him points upon his supposedly unfavs going forward. As far as a bill that won't pass, it's political at this point yo. Rand is winning this show of arms.

Defend Our Capital Act, Patriot Act, Affordable Care Act...everything always has to have some sort of name that resonates with the public that would compel them to pay attention.

Another bill that won't pass.

The point is to broadcast the possibilities for anti-establishment legislation to the voters and to expose the legislators who side with the establishment. This is potentially very powerful in getting the message out and changing peoples' minds.

didn't I read something about ISIS releasing a video saying they were going to launch terrorist attacks in DC? I can see how it might be hard for the establishment to pump up those terror threats while at the same time refusing to allow people to protect themselves. this is great timing for this bill.

It may pass the Senate with some luck... But king Obama will veto it.

You would think, wouldn't you, that in the very capital of the land of the bill of rights, you would be in the one place where you'd find the most freedom to keep and bear arms, not the least, right?

I get that he's trying to make a point with these doomed bills, but now I'm feeling like there can't be more than like one out of 10,000 voters who pay attention to bills that don't pass unless it's plastered all over the MSM, which it will never be. What's his strategy here? Wasn't the idea he was going to bring these up in debates and show them all to be hypocrites? He hasn't yet.
