One of the writers of Seinfeld's popular "Festivus" episode isn't thrilled his work has been name-checked by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

Paul, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, unleashed a string of cranky Festivus-themed tweets on Monday. Former Seinfeld writer Dan O'Keefe thinks the reference is rather dated.
"When Rand Paul tries to seem relevant with 15-year-old pop cultural references, it reminds me of when Bob Hope used to dress up as the Fonz, but that’s just me," O'Keefe said on CNN Tuesday.

Paul's "airing of grievances" included tweets attacking Senate Democrats: ("If you want more bipartisan cooperation, talk more not less") and personal grievances ("I can never remember when to move my car for DC street cleaning").
Yet he says nothing about Booker...

Yeah..um..what if he just enjoys Seinfeld and doesn't care about some PR non-sense. I'm 27 and love Festivus and Seinfeld, am I dated now too? What a tool.

Former Seinfeld writer Dan O'Keefe

As I've said many times, the left wing bias in media and entertainment does not solely come from the face-person/reader/actor, or the CEO...

Not the Seinfeld creator, which is Larry David, who happens to be a big liberal himself.

Dan must hate Rand Paul and liberty with every single bone in his body. I agree with you that Festivus is relevant. My friends through 1-2 Festivus parties a year in NH and I've been to a couple of them. Heck, there was even 1 at my house. In fact, that episode is going to air on TBS tonight at 7PM Eastern Time. That's what a friend told me today, anyway.

The writer is just cranky that every time someone mentions Festivus, he gets another $0.02 royalty check he has to endorse.

Thank you Mr. O'Keefe for 1) helping me to understand what the hell this "Festivus" thing was without having to Google it and 2) putting Rand Paul back in the news cycle. The keep mocking Rand like this, and he'll become president.

The media always writes these stories as 'got-chas' for Republicans. A Republican will make a reference to something and an actor involved says something negative about them, or they'll play a song at a campaign event and the left-wing musicians will pretend to care (I think this happened with McCain or Romney, and it did happen with Rand Paul in 2010 after using a Rush song.)

Who gives a damn what this guy or some actor or musician thinks about a politician? Their opinion doesn't become any more relevant just because so-and-so used a small reference to their work.

No. But their silly rants give Rand a bit more publicity. I say rant on! :)

He only cares because of Rand's politics. If Rand was a liberal dem he wouldn't give a ****, he'd probably be happy about it.

I still don't understand why people decided to actually celebrate a goofy, fake holiday from an overrated TV sitcom...

It's like the college kids I saw playing Quidditch (yes, with the brooms) on campus.

Because it's hilarous. :D The show is vastly overrated, but that episode was brilliant.

Well I'll just bet you always find yourself to be at the center of every party.
