Wow, I didn't know I could learn anything from reading a political article. Check this out if you get a chance.

"The covert world of ‘black programs’ acts with virtual impunity, overseen and regulated by itself, funding itself through secret slush funds, and is free of the limitations that come from Congressional oversight, proper auditing procedures and public scrutiny. The departments from which many of these black budget funds are secretly siphoned from are the very same as those proposed by Ron Paul for elimination: Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Commerce, Interior, and Education."

Eyes wide open now? And they don't even mention that in a pinch, the federal reserve can just plop some zeros into an account at will.

Yea... I mean my main reason for being turned to paul over the past year was his realistic look at our debt. But, wow... I had no idea quite how secretive it was. This is sick.

Some programs do show up in odd places. A lot of student loans are budgeted under the Department of Defense (at least they were when I was in school).

People think the food pyramid was an FDA creation. Nope. Department of Agriculture. Funny how the biggest line on the pyramid was grains. How can people still believe the gov't looks out for their interests?

link?

I don't understand, what's wrong with a black budget? Some military research should be kept covert from other nations and thus be kept off the books. Though the spending in that area has gone up a bit too much since 2001...

EDIT: Oh wait are you all arguing how it's funded? Yeah there needs to be some congressional approval there.

I dunno... Mariano Rivera has had a Hall Of Fame career by getting out batters who knew exactly what pitch was coming.

I think a foreign policy of "Here is the sh%! we will do to you if you attack us - try and stop it" would be a pretty effective deterrent.
