We dealt with this last year when our first son was born. After months of research, I decided against the Vitamin K shot, antibacterial eye ointment, and the Hep-B vaccine for our newborn. My wife and I are monogamous and she was tested previously for gonorrhea, chlamydia, hepatitis-b, etc. Our baby was also to be estimated about 9 lbs (10 lbs 3oz at birth) so not exactly the same risks that would exist with a premature birth.

Apparently they don't get a lot of refusals at Naval Hospitals and I had to sign a "refusal of treatment" after talking with half a dozen nurses and doctors. But we stood our ground. The pediatrician then refused to circumcise our son because he was concerned about how his blood would clot without the Vitamin K shot, even though they had no reservations conducting the PKU "heel stick: test in which his blood clotted up just fine. He told us to come back in few months. Well, during the next few months I ended up researching circumcision, and opted against that as well. Just watch a video of that procedure online.... I couldn't justify doing something like that to our son in the name of vanity for almost purely cosmetic reasons.

That same pediatrician brought my wife to tears weeks later at the well-baby checkup after basically saying we would be killing our son without vaccinating him. We stood our ground though.

We've continued to not vaccinate our son this year after more research, although with much apprehension. I addressed each vaccine individually, doing a cost-benefit analysis of each one and weighing the likeliness he would get the disease (being breast-fed and stay-at-home),the severity the disease and possible complications against the risk of an adverse reaction to the vaccine. Each time, so far, the vaccines have failed to meet my standards. So as of 12 1/2 months, our baby boy is in the 90+% for height and 70+% for weight (which is normal for leaner breastfed babies) and is 2-6 months ahead in almost every developmental milestone. He has only had minor illnesses. Other parents are amazed at his good temperament (which is beginning to change as we enter the toddler stage).

I sense the tide is shifting against the "Vaccinate everyone for everything" pharmaceutical/CDC/AAP/ACIP lobby. Parents are starting to educate themselves, weigh the risks, and make their own decisions which is as it should be because only you and your family will have to answer for these decisions.

Whooping cough has been epidemic in California High Schools in past years. They are giving everyone the new TDaP vaccine. It's a brutal vaccine. Your entire arm will be in pain for several days after getting it. Better than getting whooping cough though. That's miserable for 3 months.

The whooping cough vaccine does not stop the whooping cough. Just like allergies immunization did not solve my allergies. I went for week after week to get shots, and my arm hurt like hell until I stopped getting the shots in the middle of the program. Eventually, I grew out of the allergies, no shots necessary. Any time I got allergies, I treated it myself and eventually didn't even get them anymore.

I remember years ago my chiropractor telling me that he had to jump hoops in order for his children to attend school because he didn't want them vaccinated. He had to say it was for religious reasons. This was even before the increase in the amout of vaccinations they want children to have. If a professional chiropractor refused in order to keep his children safe, you know you did the right thing.

That's very good. I have noticed that many chiropractors are against vaccines. Those guys know what's up. Then again, you need to be careful about that because many people will simply call them kooks for being chiropractors, and the suspicion of vaccines will only cement their ideas that chiropractors are not real health practitioners.

I believe in a bunch of vaccines. But not the fad of the day one. Pharma has far too much power in getting their stuff approved imho. They are now recommending boys get the uterine cancer one, routinely, for example.

But in doing so, we may eliminate uterine cancer. What a boon for humanity that would be!

The anti-vax crowd is generally hysterical. I'm in no way lumping you into that group, but they so callously and arrogantly refuse to acknowledge all the good that vaccines have done. Considering that, those who knowingly author and publish articles that INTENTIONALLY lie about the dangers of vaccines have blood on their hands. Again, the individual parent who makes a decision based on what is presented to them is far less to blame and I would never call one of those parents a murderer, but we've got to acknowledge the faulty science, statistics, methodology and logic that goes into most of the anti-vax material. It's just disgusting.

My mother is a nurse and was generally opposed to her children being vaccinated with the current slate of vaccines.. She believes that some vaccines are unnecessary and that they are administered too quickly. She bases this not on science or any formal study -- just how it "feels" to her. And that is a gut reaction I empathize and agree with. Generally, we probably should err on the side of doing less as we weigh potential pros and cons. Now, with that said, the science overwhelmingly supports vaccination. Humanity is far better off for the existence of these drugs.

More than 10 million vaccines per year are given to children less than 1 year old, usually between 2 and 6 months of age. At this age, infants are at greatest risk for certain medical adverse events, including high fevers, seizures, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Some infants will experience these medical events shortly after a vaccination by coincidence. These coincidences make it difficult to know whether a particular adverse event resulted from a medical condition or from a vaccination. Therefore, vaccine providers are encouraged to report all adverse events following vaccination, whether or not they believe the vaccination was the cause.

Hard for parents to pinpoint if one vaccine gave their child an adverse 'event' since they don't give just 'one' vaccines at a time to most infants. When most doctors are getting kickbacks from the pharmaceutical industry, a lot more underreported incidents go unreported. Of course in these scenarios the foxes are guarding the hen house too.


If you go to CDC 2011-2012 Flu Vaccine report they have documentation on the adverse reactions infants had with the seasonal flu vaccine:

• During the 2010-11 influenza season, FDA and CDC detected an increase in the
number of reports to VAERS of febrile seizures following vaccination with trivalent
inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV) (flu shot) primarily in children younger than 2
years of age.

The term “febrile seizures” indicates that these infants developed fevers after receiving the flu shot, and their fevers were high enough to cause seizures. But it is just a 'coincidence' right?

Reports to VAERS can be made by anybody and are not verified. You can file reports yourself if you like. So can I.
How much is a "detectable increase?" If it was two in a million and goes to four in a million that could be detectable- but not significant.

Tetanus is like staph. It's everywhere. Kids step on nails or other sharp objects (at least they used to). Whooping cough is only treatable if antibiotics are started before symptoms start.

It would be nice if they had separate vaccines, but tetanus and whooping cough are a couple that are worth it.

Tetanus is caused by animal feces in a puncture wound where no air can get to it. ONLY if you, or your child, has a puncture wound that you are not able to clean out and get air to, is a tetanus shot advisable.

I come from a natural health family and have never been vaccinated. I am thankful everyday for my mom's research and tenacity in raising healthy kids.
