School junk food bans create underground black market

In high school I found that there was a niche market for coins with a hole shot through them by a high powered rifle. I sold pennies for a dollar and nickles for 5 dollars. They made interesting key chain ornaments. I should have expanded into jewelry, they would have made cool earrings.

You should have been suspended for defacing Federal Currency.

well, the private high school i went to must have been way off. if anything, they encouraged us to eat bad food. they had a few powerade machines throughout the school. the cafeteria was run by sodexo offering greasy hamburgers, candy, and soda. one of my teachers would sell us candy whenever his children had to go to the doctor. he went through the seminary and was my freshman year religion teacher! they even started offering starbucks coffee during the day. i still packed a lunch regulary.

My school was like that too. About 4 soda machines, a snack/candy machine, and soda fountain in the cafeteria.

Should have, or could have?

That would have been more proof you don't own the money in your pocket.

I honestly believe you should be jailed for putting a bullet through a penny. Or using one of those penny smashing machines in crappy gift shops. I would never be facetious on these forums. Don't believe in it.

Sincerely,

Slutter McGee

In my school it was the opposite. Basically the only foods my high school had were pizza hut pizza, breakfast burritos, ice cream (frozen rock solid), candy, sodas, and other junk. They used to sell meals with vegetables (and occasionally a roach in them, since I found one and thought it was an olive at first) my first 2 years there, but no one bought them, so they changed the healthy stuff to teacher-only. Most of the kids lived on complete and utter junk, with no healthy stuff available.

Same here, maybe it's just a SoCal thing... :p

But yes, a black market is expected, we never had a food problem but a drug one in our school, where guys would have their older brothers buy those duster things and sell them for $10-$15 more.

In middle school a little gambling would go on during lunch, black jack, poker etc... I did a bit myself and I walked away with $15 more than I had one day

School "officials" shut it down after catching us. It was all voluntary and no one walked away crying when they lost.

Or you could tie a string to the quarters and get free candy and sodas from the vending machine :p
