Of course Schiff is right again. But any responsible fiscal conservative should be addressing how much taxpayers are going to shell out when GM fails versus the cost of a bailout. It is my understanding that the cost of GM filing chapter 11 is actually going to cost taxpayers significantly more than 25 billion (pension guarantees, unemployment benefits, lost tax revenue, etc.). And those like Schiff who keep saying we need manufacturing (and an auto industry) in this country should look at what it will cost to start a new auto company. That simply doesn't happen anymore, even if GM goes into chapter 7 and everything is sold cheap, who is going to have the capital, let alone the desire, to start up a new auto company other than Asians who won't be building them here?

The other argument I hear from globalists is that the Asian carmakers will pick up the slack and merely build more cars here in the US. Afterall, those are good paying jobs. But without a domestic auto industry, why would they keep those jobs here? The threat of protectionism is the only thing keeping them here (we can thank Reagan for that), but without a domestic car industry what leverage would anyone have? It is cheaper to build a car in Japan and ship it here. Again, more jobs lost.

I think Schiff is right that this service sector economy is an empty hollow shell and that we really do need to need to build things and sell them. But someone has to look at the specifics and avoid some of the landmines on the way there.

This mantra of "let them fail" sounds great, but I hope some people are taking a closer look at all the details.

An annoying shill for the establishment with real connections to it, she is married to Dan Senor, former chief Occupational spokesman in Iraq. Aren't journalists supposed to be the independent watch dog of government and the establishment, and not deeply connected to it, in this case married to the former chief spokesperson for war propaganda?

When it comes to gender, it is the other way around. When a woman hits a man it is no big deal, but when a man hits a woman it is the end of the world. Male abuse victims at the hand of females are ignored. Female murders etc are given much less sentences than their male counter parts.

Society may have programed people to be oversensitive to issues, but my comment was directed at her and only her, not to all women. And since she wants murderers to rule the world, she is worthless and deserves no respect.

Schiff has been very good at calling the results of the massive growth in public debt, but I've never heard him harp too much on the private external debt, just as large and the other half of the USA's insolvency problem.

If the private and public debt had been kept between the lines through the reasonable regulation that sound currency and sane trade balance tariff regulation provides, we would not be where we are today. Economic theorists and internationalistic globalists prefer their economic engines unregulated, but you'll have a very tough time from here forward I think convincing most Americans that nevertheless attaching a brake pedal, throttle, and steering wheel isn't a sound decision. Even if the theorist is absolutely convinced their new design will stay between the lines on its own.

The hemorrhaging growth in private external debt should self-correct to a degree in a crash, since all that growth was based on increasing credit limits. I'm interested in seeing those trade figures as they come out. But now, of course, we are at extreme risk of never seeing our economy get up and walk on its own again due to the prospect of massively increasing gov't spending combined with falling revenues.
