STATE SENATOR SAYS LINDSEY GRAHAM MUST BE DEFEATED IN 2014
Defeating U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is a top goal for 2014, state Sen. Tom Davis, R-Beaufort, told a Florida rally Sunday for libertarian GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul.
“In 2014, we’re going to elect the next senator to replace Lindsey Graham,” Davis told the rally.
Paul, a Texas congressman has carried on a low-key presidential campaign despite Mitt Romney clenching the GOP nomination, appeared recently at a Columbia fundraiser for Davis, a former chief of staff to then-Gov. Mark Sanford.
Davis, a Tea Party favorite, has been widely reported to be interested in higher office – whether running against Graham, a two-term Republican from Seneca who some GOP libertarians and social conservatives consider too moderate, or for governor. Asked Sunday if he planned to take on Graham, Davis said: “Right now, I’m focusing on (the) 2013 legislative session, but (I) hope someone takes him on in 2014.”
