Palin isn't dumb. She was a capable governor, and actually pretty fiscally conservative. She is also big on energy independence. She is also a political pro who makes certain moves to make her a lot of money and further her career. The character you saw during the 2008 VP deal was not authentic.
I'm not schooled on her thoughts on foreign policy and not keen on where she stands on most social/ civil liberty issues. I'm not sure we really know who the real Sarah Palin is on a lot of issues.
