Sarah Palin is now officially a libertarian!

How can a government protect individual liberties while taxing people?

If it's a small enough amount that it is agreed upon by the masses to provide for BASIC services : Fire Dept. , Police, Military , infrastructure, etc. If you are suggesting that it is not government's role to provide these things either, I suggest you read the Libertarian Platform, realize you aren't one, and then join the Anarchists.

If taxes are voluntary it is not an infringement.

Time for another ideological circle jerk!!!

State is coercion!!! State must die!!!!

What does this have to do with the subject at hand? Who gives a fuck!!!1!

You are never going to have 100% agreement. The only way to make it voluntary is if it is some form of pay as you use service like cable TV. There is a reason why we don't call our cable bills taxes, they aren't.

Old enough to remember when vinyl would develop a 'skip'? Yup, the broken record is back.

The problem I have with states rights is what if that state doesn't allow you to move to another state.

Real-life example: slavery. Slaves were not allowed to just "go to another state".

Sorry, but as a libertarian, I don't care which state is coercing me. It's still coercion.

I'd say "libertarian" is a broad term, that includes constitutionalists, minarchists, ancaps, and voluntaryists.

I prefer local government to national or international government, but of course "states rights" is a misnomer.

I ain't gonna be nothing that starts with LIB in the first three letters. I'm not sure what one is (Libertarian) by definition, but looks like a bunch of the rest of you don't either.

(But that isn't why I came back into the room to post this. This is one of the very, very few times I'm going to admit to having emotions, but I don't debate you to smear you, acp. If you've noticed, I usually just sarcastically half-ass a snipe at someone and hope they'll look at what they said again. If you are under the impression that I don't think you're principled, it's the exact opposite. You're one of the most principled and thoughtful people I've met, and that's why I thought it was worth my self-over-valued focus to argue with you. I love you because you're principled. You aren't the Kipple I'm used to, and I admire you so much because of it.)

Kraig got banned and I never really even got to know him even with 3039 posts.
That makes me feel bad somehow.

Going Wrongue?
Elect Ron Paul and put Sarah Palin in charge of the Department of Education then abolish said Department.?,..
Lolz.

confused?? kraig got banned how and why??

I think it was mainly because he "didn't know when to quit." I forget exactly how it started, but I think he kept bumping a divisive/controversial thread on a moneybomb day and got confrontational when Cowlesy asked him to save it for another day. Anyway, after a little bit of this, he got banned for a day or three (or so). When he came back, instead of resuming normal posting (which grated on the mods anyway for discouraging political activism), he made it his mission to whine incessantly about moderators abusing their power. I forget if he got another temp ban or not. By the end though it seemed to me like he was deliberately TRYING to get banned, to martyr himself and make some kind of point. It was such a waste. :-/

Haha, this is what happens when someone bumps a thread created on 07-22-2009 @ 11:06 AM.
