Okay, lets define Marriage.
Or more specifically, define what it is not. And I'll try omit any Personal Preferences I may or may not have on the situation.
Do you think of Marriage as a Contract between two people, or as a Contract between those two people and the State? Thats what happens when you need a License to get Married. It becomes a Contract between the two involved parties and the State, where the State gets to define what Marriage is. Then the Insurance Companies get involved. Then everyone else thinks they have just as much Right as the State does to get involved and say who can get married to who. Again, this isnt about whether Gay Marriage should be Legal or Illegal, so let me remind you of some OTHER Rights you have.
Freedom of Speech. Guess what else comes with that. The Fifth Amendment. The Right to not Self Incriminate. You can choose to Speak, or you can choose NOT to speak. You have the Right to Bear Arms. But you are NOT Required to Bear Arms. That is totally up to you. And if you get some asshole customer that comes into your bar, you can Refuse them Service.
Im pretty damn sure that there are no laws that say you have to pronounce two people Man and Wife, or Man and Man, Man and Inflatable Woman, or Man and Video Game Character (yes that shit actually happens!) if you have the Ability to do so. Thus, say you go to Church. Even though you attend that Church, your Church shouldnt be required or forced to do ANYTHING that they dont approve of. Your spouse is the Wrong Religion? They should be able to choose to Deny Service just on that! But go to a Different Church of a Different Faith that doesnt have any problem with a Difference of Religion between you and your significant other, thus, they are willing to marry you, then youre Married, and the first Church doesnt have a Right to say Jack Shit about what another Church of another Faith says or does.
So, theres a couple of Important Things here. Although we think of Marriage as a Civil Union between two concenting adults, we need to recognize that it SHOULD be between those two people AND said Church. Next, you can Deny Services. Hell, youre not wearing your Yamika, that could be all the reason said Church needs to say you cant get married to so and so. Lastly, no one else gets to bitch and complain and Claim a Right to have any say so what so ever when the agreement has nothing to do with them. This is important. You have two neighbors. They both sign a contract to exchange construction work for automotive repair. You dont get to say a damn thing about that because the agreement didnt involve you.
I know not all Marriages take place in the Church. Enter the State. The State wants to behave as if it has every right to define what Marriage is. Unfortunately, it does. It does because the Agreement taking place involves the State itself. Same as the Church. Youre wearing the wrong colored Tie, no ball and chain for you! The problem is that the State caters to the Will of the People. Now, we all know that there is an overabundance of stupid people in this country. And just grouping them together and allowing them to decide any course of action does not inheritly make these stupid people automagically become Unstupid. These are the people that will bitch at the state and say things like you cant allow these people to get married because they arent of the same Faith, or lets rewind 50 years, you arent the same SKIN COLOR. These idiots do not get the concept that because the Marriage does not involve them, they dont get to say a fucking thing!
Take one of these idiots and put them in a restraunt. Say, Jack in the Box (just so we dont mention Chick-Fil-A in a hypothetical, and Jack in the Box hardly qualifies as a restraunt). The idiot denies service to some asshat for being a douchebag. The douchebag heads over to Burger Fling and gets a Whooper. The Idiot at Jack in the Box has every right to deny the douchebag service at Jack in the Box, but has zero right to deny service at Burger Fling to the Douchebag.
Moral of the Story
