Santorum's Surge - Good and Bad, Here's Why

Its a good thing Steve Deace endorsed Gingrich. He drains from both Santorum and Romney enough to benefit us more than any other endorsement barring one for Paul himself.

It's going to be close, though

Santorum is by far one of the candidates who, nationally, doesn't stand a very good chance.

A huge part of this Santorum surge, though, is Fox News creating it.

Fox News is pushing Santorum real quick to dilute Ron's vote away from Romney.

And that Steve Deace endorsed Gingrich!? Yea, that guy was a fraud all along.

Santorum has NO delegates in Tennessee. NONE. He is not a threat to Paul, I hope he comes in 2nd.

I'm hoping the recent drop in the Iowa polls for Paul (an on intrade) are a blessing in disguise and prevents supporters from getting complacent when it comes time to hike out to the caucuses in the cold Iowa night. If Paul supporters know it is going to be close, or that Paul is behind Romney, it should inspire more of them to get out to the caucuses. . . . I hope.

I don't know how much of an issue this is, but I agree. Complacency may or may not be an issue for Ron Paul taking Iowa. Let's hope the people realize we cannot afford to miss a single vote.

i think we all know that santorum is not going anywhere outside of Iowa, but Paul needs to get first or second and Iowa and santorum may come in the way, that's what i'm afraid of.. there are lots of undecided in Iowa who will coalesce around santorum b/c of the media push and the evangelicals

Fox is trying to bolster Santorum to try to get folks who would vote for Paul who wouldn't vote for Romney to vote for Santorum. I think Santorum is probably gaining due to Bachmann imploding (after Iowa, I expect her to draw things down and pending a showing in South Carolina, I would say she drops out no later than the end of the SC primary if things don't go her way). Is it the surge that Fox rants about? nope? Will Santorum do better than expected and Fox try to bolster him up? probably. Santorum trying to dilute Ron Paul's vote is probably the strategy as Okie RP fan stated above.

Should Santorum possibly get the nomination and by some off chance the presidency,I will laugh when China and Russia accelerates their dumping of US assets citing high deficits to continue "unsustainable" military positioning internationally, with the most recent being the war with Iran to defend the "better than America" Israel.Christians who trade their temple for the old one just really disgust me.

All I know is, I wish January 3rd would come and go already so we can plot our course accordingly.

Speaking of Santorum, sweet ad by Perry at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XApvbISkJeE

Sounds like a 3 man race coming up:
Romney for those who like the status quo
Santorum for those who vote based on religion
Paul for those who want liberty

Knowing what the American public is like, this is going to be a dogfight for quite a while. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but lets keep up our efforts, and if we can get some early success, it should bring in more suppporters.

Actually ON THE GROUND reports report that media outnumber voters at many events. teh MEDIA and polls, starting with one that only polled GOP, are reporting he is surging, but I'm sure he is, from evangelicals banding together. I don't know how much of that will turn out, but we will see.

santorum and perry are fighting for the same constituents.. hopefully perry's millions will help slow santorum, but i still want frothy to finish third, thus effectively derailing perry and gingrich

cab4656 --- there is a four-way contest for second tier right now.

had herman cain stayed and sanford not been such a scandal, would

there have been a five-way evangelical split and even more confusion?

We benefit more in the first 2-3 months from a three-way race with Santorum and Romney than just a two way race with Romney, because it makes winning percentages lower, because our organization is and will be superior, and because Santorum will be more likely to keep Romney's margins low than to go after us.

You don't think Santorum would attack Ron Paul? I thought trolling Ron Paul was his favorite past time. I think its more likely he would attack Ron to try to make himself the anti-romney.

BINGO! And the GOP better be smart about how they play those cards - else a certain % go elsewhere!

Actually I think Sanford would have had this whole thing in the bag had he not pulled his stunt.
Honestly, I've joked before that I'd love to cut off his penis for how terribly he failed this country. He could have pulled all of Romney's establishment votes and potentially allowed Dr Paul to support him instead of running himself. He would have gotten the soccer mom vote easily, the religious, and the establishment. I'm still pissed at him!
