Mitt Romney Santorum sends out email to endorse Mitt Romney

Does this now mean Santorums delegates are unbound?

He's now not just suspended his campaign, he's completely given up, and I don't think the rules (which I am printing out and studying starting tomorrow when I next get to my printer) allow him to simply transfer his delegates to Romney.

We knew it was coming, but still - ugh

"Rick Santorum suspended his campaign for president almost a month ago, and had held off on endorsing the presumed Republican front-runner, Mitt Romney. He sent an email out to his supporters late Monday evening telling his supporters that the fight against President Obama needed to be "all hands on deck". The endorsement of Romney was buried deeply within his sentiment filled message.

Santorum shared that he had a meeting with Mitt Romney on Friday in Pittsburgh. During the meeting (which lasted for over an hour), Santorum discussed with Romney the reasons he had held back on an endorsement.

I felt that it was completely impossible for me to even consider an endorsement until after a meeting to discuss issues critical to those of us who often feel our voices are not heard by the establishment: social conservatives, tea-party supporters, lower and middle income working families.

No those delegates are still bound to him till he settles his debt. When they are released they can choose who they want. So hopefully we
have plenty of stealth Santorum delegates.

Some people say that Santorum had to endorse Romney if he wanted to have a chance in the 2016 election. This would show very little forward-thinking as I believe Paul's ideologies will greatly expand across the Republican party by then, regardless of what happens.
 
Are they automatically released when he settles his debt or does Santorum have to declare them released?
 
Just letting you guys know this is a GOOD THING. Many of his supporters are fanatical to him and only him, and have already come out to say that they would not support Romney or anyone else he endorses. This means his delegates will likely force a brokered convention and go for an anti-Romney vote, as many of them are born-again Christians.
 
This isn't really an endorsement. This is a resignation. He is endorsing the party and I guess that means I gotta go along with Mitt Romney.

Wasn't he the one that said Romney was the worst republican to go against Obama, "choose anyone else." What a sell out. His supporters should, rightfully, feel betrayed.

Maybe this is so that he can say he didn't send the email if people react negatively lol
