Sanders wants to take a bite out of drug patent laws!

Legalize marijuana?
Prosecute crooked cops?
Stop mandatory minimums?
Don't get us in foreign entanglements?
Yes. I'd add:
Repeal "PATRIOT" Act?
Protect gun manufacturers from lawsuits?
Repeal NDAA?
Demilitarize and retrain local police units?
Repeal mass surveillance programs?

That and the fact that the MSM has been trying to bury him as "unelectable" in a fashion so similar to what they did to Ron Paul. He's actually PUSHING THROUGH!!!!!!!! Dunno if I'm going to vote for him or not....but I may.

My kid will be 7 soon. At last tally we're averaging a little over $1000/day in patented meds. It should level out at about $2500 daily plus inflation by the time he's an adult. There are about 25,000 in the US with his condition. Without meds, life expectancy is 13 years. With meds, he lives as long as anyone else.

$40/hour 24/7 * 25,000
His patient group alone is $1,000,000/hour

The medical system is broken including the way prescription drugs are brought to market, the frequency they're subscribed and the way the consumer pays for the R&D.

Uh.....of course the end consumer should pay for the R&D. That's part of the cost.

And when the taxpayers start footing the bill, the downward pressure on price disappears, and with it goes all the incentives to develop less expensive, competitive options. The best you'll be able to hope for is that the unelected bureaucrats in the Obamacare department decide to keep it on the approved medications list.

Good luck!

Who didn't starve back then?! But seriously, if that's the reason, the Founders should have been transparent about it and wrote "So Scientists and Artists don't starve..."

Maybe they did. There are literally tons of documents written by them. Perhaps the onus is on us to actually read what they wrote to determine their motivations and intentions.

NAH! Fuck that - lets just expect other people to invent stuff for free so we can profit from it. I mean, who doesn't want to serve The Common Good?

Legalize marijuana? Legalizing? Or decriminalizing?
Prosecute crooked cops? He has no desire to take on crooked cops. He will need them to collect government tribute from the serfs.
Stop mandatory minimums? That's fine. I doubt he would go through with it.
Don't get us in foreign entanglements? He has always been a big fan of foreign entanglements. He is in no hurry to stop them now.

However, patent protections are Constitutional. So here we have Bernie threatening to take away a Constitutional right. COuple that with his position on CItizens United, and this is trouble.

Patents may be Constitutional, but they certainly are not a right. Getting rid of them would be a great thing. But this is Bernie Sanders. What he would want to replace them with is what frightens me.

I like to believe that medicine can move from the current socialism/fascism model... back to free markets and still provide equally or better quality of life. My greatest concern is continuity of care along the way. It seems like the current model is designed to stifle competition and provide lucrative taxpayer backed revenue streams protected by ever evolving mesh of patents. The drug companies lobby the "standard of care" that the "insurance" pays for... always the latest and greatest patented product covered and mandatory.... the cheaper generic options outlawed or not "covered". Until they're actually outlawed "high revenue" patients are heavily marketed to to get them to request the latest and greatest FDA sanctioned patented medicine.... Then if the patient requests the doctor is obligated to "upgrade". And it seems to me like the doctors push for you to "upgrade"; I don't know if they get kickbacks or how that works... but you can just tell its all about converting the legally guaranteed $350k/anum revenue stream into a $550k/anum stream. Its like the drug companies compete for patients as cash cows. And the stock prices reflect it... you look at the companies involved and their valuations are not based on tangible assets but government protected revenue streams. Company builds new factory.... stock valuation goes sideways.... FDA outlaws generic competition... shares to the moon!

It just seems ridiculous to me that you can't get 25,000 people together with a common life threatening cause... acting as a free market syndicate... to hire a few process scientists and build a lab... and produce the same shit they're giving us for $3000 a dose; for peanuts per patient. But there is so much red tape and disincentive between here and there.

I can't believe people here have forgotten the last 2 major IP threads already. SMH.

[COLOR=white !important][h=1]strawman[/h][h=2]You misrepresented someone's argument to make it easier to attack.[/h]By exaggerating, misrepresenting, or just completely fabricating someone's argument, it's much easier to present your own position as being reasonable, but this kind of dishonesty serves to undermine honest rational debate.
Example: After Will said that we should put more money into health and education, Warren responded by saying that he was surprised that Will hates our country so much that he wants to leave it defenceless by cutting military spending.

Yes. I'll never forget (or forgive) the MSM's treatment of Ron Paul during his runs. Remember all the lies and distortions? Remember Faux News announcing who came in 1st and 3rd in the Iowa Straw Poll, conveniently "forgetting" to mention #2? Remember them reusing old footage of booing while covering a new event? Remember CNN's Drew Griffin saying, "If you get a sound bite from Palin.. you can hold the Ron Paul stuff"? Remember Dana Bash existing?

The same thing has been happening to Sanders. The Washington Post ran 16 negative stories on Bernie in 16 hours. That's just desperate.

He's actually PUSHING THROUGH!!!!!!!! Dunno if I'm going to vote for him or not....but I may.

I know what you mean. I'll be voting for him in my state's primary, and likely for the LP party in the general. He's the least hawkish of the remaining candidates, according to Reason. I have growing children, and I don't want them involved in endless wars in any of the 20 different countries the hawks are proposing we invade.

You might want to reread exactly what he said. Or the definition of strawman. Not sure where you got lost.

Boy will you be disappointed. There is absolutely nothing that Bernie would change about U.S. foreign policy. Nothing.
