Sanders Criticizes Two-Party System for Blocking Competition from Third Parties

It would be helpful if the parties didn't also control the state legislatures. In our state the two corrupt major parties control who can be on the ballot and how they are listed. The two parties of corruption only recognize themselves as legitimate.

Yep. Glad Bernie's bringing this up. It sure needs to be addressed by the major politicians in major media outlets.

That should be a cause for this forum. When you register to vote, you have a choice between democrat, republican, libertarian, independent ... So there should be four separate primaries. Not a word is ever mentioned of any primary, other than republican and democrat.

What we need in this country is proportional representation. The Winner-takes-all / First-past-the-post type of representation that we currently have just cannot represent the huge amounts of diversity that we have in this country.

Yes. But I can't see a way to make that happen, with our current corrupt government. As you know, nearly every state government has ballot access laws in place which make it nearly impossible to even get a third party candidate on the ballot. With those laws in place, even launching a third party campaign is almost impossible.

It isn't likely to happen, but it still needs to happen regardless. "Big tent" political parties are stupid in a country with 300 million people with every kind of culture imaginable.
