Salon: "Let’s hope the Boston Marathon bomber is a white American"

However, white male privilege means white men are not collectively denigrated/targeted for those shootings

Of course not, they have to wait and see what his political affiliation is before they start the collective denigration/targeting of the group.

Of course leftist idiots like this guy want it to be a white male American, because broadly speaking it's the one group of Americans that's the biggest pain in the ass to control with handouts and promises. That fact is coupled with the fact they have a majority of the guns in the country.

Of course, we're all well-aware that controlling this group is largely mythical, as vast swaths of them voted for the guy Mr. Sirota supports.

Leftists like this guy are the biggest of totalitarians, and you, random white guy just trying to make a living and get along like everyone else, are target #1.

Anything to bring another big boot down on boobus americanus is a victory for these guys.

Generally, the 'white man' knows what's taking place, so he needs to be first stigmatized and then eliminated.

The writer is delusional if s/he thinks that this will not be used to massively enlarge the Security State, regardless of who it ultimately gets pinned on.

This.I hope whoever did this gets caught and punished severely, but I also think the best chance of catching him/them is by scrutinizing all of the film,iPod pictures and such of the area before the explosion.

This will lead to calls for even more security cameras everywhere,I'm afraid.

This bastion of freedom and liberty (and former funder of terrorists)...

Has already called for more surveillance cameras.

Could be legit.

The system may have have something that tingled its antenna just enough to send out the warnings and increase "security".

Then again, could be all false flag.

Just applying my personal rule of thumb to this.

Mark my words: this thing disappears off the radar of the government organs and mouthpieces (the media), it was "real" and they have no clue who did it or why.

Well the 1993 WTC bombing dropped off the radar once it came out that a government informant built the bomb.

I hate to say this, but the Salon writer has a point, albeit a twisted one. Depending on who's doing the "analysis", whether someone is deemed a "lone nutcase" or part of a "terror network" does depend quite a bit on the script the talking head is reading from. Many of the same talk show hosts who were upset that Obama didn't label the Ft Hood shooter an "Islamic terrorist" are quick to say anyone else is a "lone nut." And the reverse is true. Note that when Clinton was no longer able to sell the "vast right wing conspiracy" angle on the OKC bombing, the idea of "John Doe # 2" dropped off the radar?

i don't think this article is nearly as bad as the title suggests it might. it makes some valid points (specifically, in regards to the way our culture perceives mass violence). it's absolutely true that if most school shooters were, say, Muslim, we'd deal with it much differently than we do now, where they're generally white males.

that said, the article fails to get into where backlash against white males does exist, such as... at playgrounds, for example.

The media has been hammering tea party and right-wing type groups. They have their scapegoat ready to go.

I think many here are missing the point.

The damage has already been done. I repeat, the damage has already been done.

It doesn't matter if this turned out to be a generator randomly exploding at this point (which obviously it isn't), because the mainstream media has already successfully imprinted 'right wing extremist' and its variants ('gun lover', etc) as something 'bad' and worth pointing the finger at.

They already made the association, doesn't matter who did it anymore (in regards to the blame game -- obviously getting the culprit remains important).
