S---! - Iran just invaded Iraq - this is going to get ugly....

BAGHDAD – Iranian troops have crossed into Iraqi territory and seized an oil well that lies in a disputed area along the two countries' southern border, Iraq's deputy foreign Minster said Friday.

Oil prices rose slightly after news of the incident.

It caused only minor blip in oil prices, nothing major. If oil price had jumped by about $10 as had happened when Israel occupied Lebanon in 06, then there may have been some reason for excitement. Nothing going on here.

Well, there are not many news stories on this. Wtf did happen, and why? This could be a real kicker, and that ain't cool. At the very least, this may turn into something that they'll magnify beyond belief, and turn into whatever they want. God bless the Persians, AND our Men.

jolly roger, er...... jolly rancher anyone?

beware of a false flag attack - where one country uses the flag of another to shift blame for the attack

in this instance, possible countries that might want to false flag:
Iraq,
Us,
Britain

Yeah, I don't see how this is a false flag event. First, no Americans are dead, so not a lot of people are going to rally around this. Second, this is the normal way things work historically. Countries fight for the control of natural resources. It's one of the reasons there was a North African front in WWII, If not for oil, there wouldnt have been much reason to have Rommel an Patton cruising around in the desert.
Also, if this did turn into a full scale war, it would not be WWIII, there is no great power that the alliance of US, Israel and UK would be fighting. Certainly there would be a UN Resolution, China and Russia would abstain and not want to get involeved, and a coalition force would resemble the Gulf War. Though like I said, it does not sound all that serious (from an American point of view). It could definitely escalate into a hot war if these things continued, plus Israel would lve a preventive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. This is the scarier part, because if it did happen they would likely be looking for American help and the Americans might be willing to oblige (due to the massive Israel lobby). If this happens, there could be a draft. But again, it would be a tough political fight for the Obama Administration.

I was going to make the same point. This is the MSM and the government telling us who is invading what. THey've lied and been wrong before. Gulf of Tonkin?? Do we have any real evidence that actual Iranian citizens have taken over an Iraqi oil well?

The false flag attack paradigm is not limited to Americans. To think that only Americans have the ability to set up a false flag attack is egocentric and inaccurate.

Also, even if some people who live in Iran have taken over an oil well owned by some Iraqi people, does the US have any business messing around with the dispute?

A border war with Iran could go a long way in bringing Iraq together against a common enemy rather than fighting amongst themselves. It could have been planned. God only knows what goes on behind closed doors.

First point, no we have no evidence. We have reports. But, they are being reported by some pretty good sources (I know you will all name 5,000 things the NYT, ect. have gotten wrong...).

Second point, you're right, I was speaking from a strictly American point of view, forgive me for not having a cosmopolitan enough outlook. My point was more that in order to rally Americans around a cause, it works out better to have Americans directly involved.
I am not sure if the third point is directed at me, because it is making a point I did not address.
Again, at this point I see no reason not to take this story at face value. I think we can agree we do not want to see the U.S. go to war with Iran. What th circumstances are surrounding that point are not as important as that main issue.
The other thing, to reiterate, anytime oil is involved I tend to believe states are genuinely willing to send armies to fight for it.

Also, someone mentioned the possibility of this creating a rallying point for Iraqi nationalism. That would probably be the case if there wasn't so much sectarian in-fighting. Sunni's and Shi'ite do not seem to be willing to compromise for the betterment of Iraq.

i don't think this was a false flag. The U.S. response was that this could be worked out diplomatically or some shit. That tells me right away that Iran actually was the one doing it. They jumped the gun. Elites aren't quite ready for their total war yet.

Looks like a ploy to support carbon credits to me. If we used less oil Iraq and Iran would kiss and make up.

BAGHDAD — Iraq deployed security forces Saturday near a remote oil well seized by Iran, officials said, and its government pressed Tehran to withdraw its forces from the area along their disputed southern border. U.S. officials applauded Iraq for standing its ground against Iran — an uneasy ally that analysts said was aiming to remind its neighbor of its economic and political pull in its takeover of the oil well Thursday. The site is located in one of the largest oil fields in Iraq and has about 1.5 billion barrels in reserves.
