Perhaps that was badly worded. What I'm saying is this: I hope Rand really does support this resolution. Because if he doesn't, it's going to come back to bite him, and it might even be used as ammo against him if he doesn't really support it.

That's not exactly what I meant. What I'm trying to say, as I clarified in the statement above, is that Rand better support this resolution himself or it's not going to end well.

How is refusal to trade with a nation and those who do trade with them an act of war?

I have to say I don't agree with Ron on this one, although I agree with him on sanctions being stupid and I think this vote had more to it than just sanctions.

Sanctions are not "refusal to trade with a nation". Sanctions are legislative prohibitions of trade between two individuals from different countries, who are willing to trade with each other.

Basically it's aggression against individuals of your own country. If you want to trade goods with an individual in a "prohibited" country, your government will stop you with force. But in effect it's harming both parties, domestic and foreign, who can't trade because of sanctions. Very often it means inadequate medicine supply, rising food and oil prices, etc. - especially for the poorer country.
