rp lost by 1 vote?

What are the statistical chances of this happening? I say the same thing whenever there's one of these crazy close elections, like the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections. What is the statistical likelihood of these races being as "close" they often seem to be?

The anti-conspiracy view of this is that if the votes were rigged, they would've done it by more than one vote to make it less suspicious looking.

I would argue that if someone were rigging the vote, they might think having a 1-vote margin is a clever way to discourage accusations of foul play, because it looks so obviously manipulated that if it actually were they wouldn't probably have done something similar. Hiding in plain sight, as they say,,,,

A complete disgrace. C4L apparently issued all 800 tickets to supporters and less than 438 of them bothered showing up to vote in a straw poll that was ridiculously winnable with massive payoff. What does that say about our ability to win the far more challenging Louisiana caucus in 2012?

The CPAC victory sparked a small flame of hope for 2012 by demonstrating to the sheeple that Ron Paul is a winner. An SRLC victory could have fanned that flame, but instead we let it get snuffed out through laziness and apathy. The whines of "it was rigged!" just add to the disgrace.

90% of the sheeple see the headline "Romney Wins SRLC Straw Poll" and move on. There is a complete world of difference between that and "Ron Paul Wins SRLC Straw Poll".

Yep, pretty much. And the "it was rigged/2nd place was the best option" spin holds no weight with me. Though I know I'll never see it, I'd love an accounting of how those 800 tickets were disbursed. What happened to those people? And I mean something definitive, not speculation.

Sorry, I waited until today to comment on this in the hope that I would have calmed down, but I'm still fuming. The final results and one vote loss only serves to prove that victory was right there for the taking. Inexcusable.

I'm almost as upset as when the dog ate the hard drive or whatever happened to the voter database on the day of the Iowa caucus.

Nailed it. Personal responsibility isn't just for the other guy.

I heard the results of this poll on the radio this morning. I don't know who was more happy my son or I to hear his name in second place.

Even more happy to now know by a single vote. :D:D

Ron Paul 2012 !!!! :p

WOOHOO!!!! Maybe we can get 3rd at the Values Voter Summit, and then maybe 4th at CPAC 2011!!!!

Things that make you go "hmmmm."

@WRSpolling: A lot of ballots came in late, hopefully release #SRLC Straw Poll results in the next 20-30 mins http://bit.ly/aHipZS.

Cute how, according to neocon central, Paul winning straw polls is meaningless, while Mandate Mitt RomneyCare's win represents "momentum." Speaking of which:

@DavidCornDC: Nice to see the GOPers at #SRLC endorse the notion of mandating health insurance purchases.

Bad move to boo the Israel comment. Silence would have been better. That kind of thing doesn't help Paul at all with the GOP Israel Firsters.

Lew's blog post on this killed me!:

Romney Celebrates Near Loss to Ron Paul
Posted by Lew Rockwell on April 10, 2010 06:01 PM

Mitt Romney, who has been buying votes at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, beat Ron Paul by a measly one. Sarah Palin was third and Newt Gingrich was fourth. Check out the triumphalist tone of this typical story. It shows how worried the regime and its media have been. And you know what? Their worries have only begun. The hilarious “Evangelicals for Mitt” spread the dough around for months. Ron Paul’s small effort only started in the last couple of weeks. So by any honest measure, the uncrook actually won over the warfare-[welfare] state’s Richie Rich.

FTFH.

Well, Ron Paul would not be getting the GOP Israel Firsters.

But, still not a good idea to boo.

Some Republicans don't like booing other Republicans. You know, be polite, stuff like that. It's more of a style thing than a policy thing.

Things that make you go "hmmmm."

hell Bill Frist won the straw poll in 2006....he didnt even run for President

That doesn't change the fact that losing the straw poll was a huge missed opportunity for millions of dollars worth of free media exposure that would help the public start seeing Ron Paul as a winner.

Bill Frist would have been a serious presidential contender had he not lost his Senate seat later that year to the Democratic juggernaut.

Well registration closed at 1p on Saturday - those who showed up afterwards were not allowed in. People who tried to vote early on Friday were turned away because the ballots were not ready. Parking at the hotel was full and the closest parking was 15 minutes away by foot. And sinage within the hotel regarding where to go to vote was lacking or flat out nonexistent.

Yes lots of RP supporters who should've been there but weren't which is true, but the methodology of the tabulation of the votes is still in question however!
