Reason for
when taking on an incumbent
when being significantly outspent
when there is irrefutable information that the opponent has done something wrong
when the candidate has little name recognition

Example of

"Black baby of John McCain" slur in the George W. Bush primary campaign

Willie Horton ad used by in the George H. W. Bush 1988 presidential campaign against Michael Dukakis

"Revolving Door", an ad used in the same campaign.

Attacks against George W. Bush's military record (or lack thereof) in the 2000 presidential election, and attacks against John Kerry's Vietnam service record by some Navy Swift Boat veterans of the Vietnam War

I think attack ads are great, and we are just the people to do them. But we have to wait until the field is narrow. Attacking one candidate will not insure that those voters who are put off, will necessarily come to RP.

I think the best attack would be linking them to Bush and saying a vote for any candidate besides Ron Paul, is a vote for Hillary.

They simply can't beat the democrats with the well-deserved hatred of the Bush administration and the hatred of neo-conservatives.

Use Hillary as the Democrat they're competing against because she is much more hated than Obama or Edwards

Too early for attacks. Still need to boost name recognition. I am sure time will come but attacks should always be substantive and based on ideas and votes. Don't stoop to the mud slinging nonesense that puts off many people. That being said.... if some real dirt comes up on someone, I suppose letting a couple people know that isn't a bad idea.

Housing market failure.

Immigration policy failure.

Outsourcing/labor policy failure.

Education system failure.

Monetary policy failure.

Government corruption failure.

This imperial government has failed us at every juncture. It's well past time to slay this beast and return some sanity to our national purpose. The Federal government must be returned to it's proper role and Constitutional limitations and this infatuation with a socialist world system must be ended.

We dont need attack adds, the other candidates are crumbling on their own. Here in florida the only thing that I think might need to be done is an honest comparison sheet of Ron Paul to Guiliani. He is amazingly popular but people know very little of his true back ground/dirt.

Yeah, that's what I'm scared of. The thing is, it can be anything. Honestly, it could be anything at all. In Dean's case it was the 'Dean Scream." I read that Dean was also engaged in some attack ads before the primaries. So, perhaps it's the combination of name calling and then losing the name calling battle that really does people in.
I simply can't see Dr. Paul's campaign attacking anyone...at all (and I don't know if this provides a 'force field' or not). I can see them attacking issues, but not sure if I can see them getting personal. But who knows....politics is funny that way.
