RP Booths at Iowa County Fairs

I guess I didn't say this, but that reference/contact request is just on their standard application form that I printed off from their website. I haven't called anybody or anything like that yet.

And it doesn't specifically say that we would be denied without references, but I'm just wondering how much discretion the people who make that decision have.

If you are not already a member, try joining these 2 meetups:

http://www.meetup.com/PCI-CFL/

http://www.meetup.com/IA-CFL/

Then go way back in their message spools and hopefully they were around back in 2007 and see if they had a presence at any county fairs or the state fair. If you find out they did, you should be able to get a name of who was doing the footwork and signed the contracts. If you can contact those people, you should have an acceptable in. Hopefully they were RP Meetups before they became CFL ones and are that old.

They have lots of discretion. Just call, explain who we are and what kind of a cycle we run on. If you are lucky, you might land a RP supporter. If you are unlucky, you might get a Romney supporter or run into a "no political booths" policy.

Be nice, friendly and upbeat.

Anyone already volunteer for Lee, Van Buren, or Des Moines counties? If not, I'll gladly help for those ones.

Outstanding. I'll put you in the OP for those three. Have you looked at that website I linked to in the OP yet? Some of those deadlines are coming up fairly soon. Were you going to apply for the booth or just volunteering to run it?

We could do chip ins here as well if needed for funds.

Thank you!

We should sort by deadlines too. Tells us who to contact first.

Do keep in mind that they will wave a deadline if they have unsold space.

I'll see who else volunteers that is actually in Iowa. (I'm closest to those 3 counties.) If nobody steps up I'll do the most I can do.

So are we all making our own banners, or can we assume a standard booth size and just mail one or two back and forth across the state?

I know the official campaign is considering doing some fairs, maybe if they have a banner or two they would lend it out? Whoever did the fair would have to pick it up or get it mailed from Des Moines/Ankeny though.

Gotta get some literature together, too.

I'll post on Daily Paul and see if we can round up any more volunteers. Any where else we could be recruiting? Highwayman aren't you in touch with some YAL groups?

8' is a standard booth width, sometimes it's 10'

it's worthwhile to have your own tables - at least some of them for other events, fairs, tabling in front of grocery stores, etc.

These are the ones that have folding legs, and then fold in half so they fit in a car. They come in 6 and 8' lengths and you should be able to find them for less than this:

Here are the tents I was talking about. They come with and without walls, get the walls. Some brands are "First up", "E-Z Up Sierra" and "Swiss Gear Smart Shade". Places like Walmart discount and put them on sale going into summer:

The one I linked to is a commercial grade one - useful only if you are doing this a lot. For infrequent use, a lighter one should work, but if you're looking at really heavy crowds you will want the heavier poles. Lighter ones should be $100 or less on sale.

another more delux one on sale, from the same supplier - and it's less expensive!

I'm not sure on the commercial ones, but the personal "gazebo's" the poles break down and the whole thing fits in a carrier a bit bigger than a golf bag. ie: toss it in a car.

If this is successful, take it to the next level...

Campaign For Liberty At State / County Fairs - Nationwide?
Regarding this awesome post "This is how you get it done"
http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=200463

  • Would Campaign For Liberty be allowed at the State Fair?

  • If so, will the 12evolution band together and have large booths at every State Fair?

  • If so, will the 12evolution band together and have a huge float in the nightly parade?

A method to share the tents / displays / floats among the different shows needs to be looked at.

This idea needs to go nation-wide!!!

re: first post: C4L was openly promoting Rand's 2010 Senatorial campaign, yet will delete any mention of RP 2012 on their web site... Interesting....

I arrive in Des Moines Aug 3 and will be there til the 15th. I'd be happy to help run a booth during that time frame, either at a fair or a gunshow, but can't afford the whole $150.

Awesome. My thought is the Scott county fair is by far the biggest during that time frame. It'll probably be fairly pricey so we might need a chip in, but I'll look into it and get back with you.
Thanks for volunteering. :)

I'm in Ames but don't have transportation.. I'll be willing to help how and when I can.. Is there a sort of car pool situation that can be worked out for events? I'd chip in for gas and stuff..

I PMd you earlier, but for anyone else I'm thinking there will be many many Ron Paul volunteers coming your way in the not so distant future, so hopefully we will be able to get you involved.

I just got the registration forms for the Hardin County Fair emailed to me. July 6-10th, 13,700 people, 45 minutes outside of Ames. Please let me know if anyone can help.
