Adopt an Iowa County Fair for Ron Paul 2012!

102 of the 106 Iowa county fairs this summer are before the Ames straw poll. We need to get some RP supporters to setup and run a booth at as many of them as we can. Total attendance at Iowa fairs in 2010 was 3.5 million. The population of the entire state of Iowa is only 3 million. So obviously some people get counted multiple times and some come from neighboring states, but still incredible numbers.

So,

If anyone on here is willing to "Adopt" an Iowa county fair please let me know. By this I mean, are you able to either:
1) Donate the rental fee?
OR
2) Run the booth during any of the dates listed below?

If you are able to do either of those, or able to do both, fantastic. Please post and let me know!

Come spend a week in Iowa this summer and help Dr. Paul win the all important Ames Straw Poll!

Here are the county fairs, listed by date:

Just printed off the application for Westfair, the fair that covers the western half of pottawattamie county. Site says 40,000 people attended last year, and cost is $150 plus insurance. App due July 1st.

I really think this is something that out of staters who want to come to Iowa can definitely do to help. You're manning a booth at a county fair, so its not likely to be confrontational or reflect poorly on Ron's campaign in the least (which I think were the concerns that have been expressed lately). Come for a weekend and help run a literature booth at a county fair. Plus, they're kinda fun :)

Good idea.

The same thing goes for gun shows. In fact gun shows might have more bang for the buck (which I mean truthfully, albeit punnily).

Good call on the gun shows. I recall lots of success with those in '08.

If anyone would like to "Adopt" a county fair or gun show, please let me know and I'll add you to the original OP. By this I mean if anyone is willing to either 1) Donate the rental fee or 2) Come in and run the booth during the fair.

Come spend a weekend in Iowa this summer and help Ron Paul at a county convention!

no signs or balloons, if they are not registering republican it is a waste of time./ Sarcasm!!! Great Idea by the way!!!!!

Bump.

For the larger ones it might be good to get 2-3 booths if we can afford them and have the manpower. Also focus on the big ones close to Ames.

+rep, this is an excellent idea.

IDefendThePlatform, I will sticky this if you'd like. I think it's important, but there's always the question of whether or not stickied post get seen more or bypassed. :)

Here is one with 21,600 attendance that is right next to Ames:
WEBSTER COUNTY FAIR, Fort Dodge
Jul. 13 - 18, 2011

Best one to start that I've seen so far...

I know that the Scott County fair is a really big one, in the Quad Cities. That one is in very close proximity to the Straw Poll, as well, so we should definitely have people there.

This is right before ames right? So, would we be collecting names and phone numbers of people willing to be bused in to vote for Ron in the straw poll?

We should be doing several things at these booths:

1) Distributing literature
2) Talking to likely voters about what they are looking for in a candidate, and relating Ron Paul's message to what their areas of concern are
3) If they seem interested, asking them for contact information

If you get to step 3 and get contact information, we can relay this to grassroots coordinators who are working to get people to the straw poll, and/or to the state campaign office (unless this violates any campaign laws, but I don't believe that it should).

Absolutely. I'm picturing a booth with a Ron Paul 2012 banner on top, and a www.iowaforronpaul.com banner on the bottom. We have 1-3 people there at all times handing out literature and signing people up to hopefully go to Ames. If people aren't willing to commit to that on the spot (probably only previous RP supporters would) then we at least get their email or phone number and try to get them to come to a local Meetup or send them more info.

I think someone should also let the official campaign know about this. They have the money and the ability to get tons of volunteers for this.

Yeah I don't think we push them to attend the straw poll, unless the county is within ~1 hour of Ames. But I do think that a lot of people will be interested and will be willing to provide contact info, which is all we need to get the ball rolling. We can always send them a couple e-mails asking them to attend the straw poll, and detailing transportation options for them.
