I thought I read somewhere that RP's solution for social security and medicare was to allow young people to opt out,and then using money saved from withdrawing military abroad into weening the current generation from entitlements?

I can't seem to find details of this on the RP2008 site.. anyone else know if I'm dreaming this up? Anywhere I can find some real details on his plan?

Thanks

You're not dreaming this up.. it is his plan. I can't provide any links for you since I don't recall them off-hand, but I have heard him say this same thing over and over in interviews.

I don't think he's ever said he'd ween people off Social Security and Medicare, since letting young people opt out effectively transitions those programs away, but he's said as much about the rest of the welfare state.

To clarify, I saw this:

I don't think he's ever said he'd ween people off Social Security and Medicare,

and this:

since letting young people opt out effectively transitions those programs away,

as being the same thing. In a general sense, it weens people off the system because it fades itself away. But you're right, the intention isn't to ween off each individual by cutting their benefits, it's to continue to provide the benefits to those that remain in the system and are dependent.
