RonPaul2008.com?

One thing I noticed

I don't think this was intentional. Someone probably just screwed something up.

The top of the "current" RP2008 site indicates (with XP Pro/IE6.0):

ronpaul2008.com
This domain name has just been registered.
Why is this page displayed?

Did they change registrars and the changes need to "propagate"?

Someone may simply have forgotten to change the default server names.

However, the "why is this page displayed" goes to
http://www.sedoparking.com/templates/30/why_popup.html

It specifies that the home index file *must* have .html as the extension. The original RP2008 used .htm (which does not solve the problem).

Does that mean that the new hosting service doesn't allow index.shtml or index.php options?? If so, talk about obsolete:(

Note: Per my records, the prior "whois" information listed Kent Snyder as the contact, so that may be why changes have been made.

heres your explanation (click on the link that says; why am i seeing this page?)

Why does my domain's home page say "This domain has just been registered by a 1&1 Internet customer"?

You are seeing this page when you visit your domain (www.yourdomain.com) because you have not yet replaced the temporary web page which was created for you when you signed up for your 1&1 Internet domain or web hosting package. This page/file is called "index.html" and can be overwritten or replaced with a page you create using one of our site building tools or your own site building software depending on whether you purchased a 1&1 Internet domain name only package or a 1&1 web hosting package.

Why have we placed this temporary page for you?

If your site does not include an index.html page/file (either your placeholder "Under Construction" page or a home page you created yourself), your site visitors will receive a "Page not Found" error when viewing your domain. If the temporary page on this domain is currently visible, it also means DNS name pointing has been successful and you are ready to begin building your site!

Important: By default, the first page you'll see when you visit your domain name is "index.html"

What to do next?

In order for a visitor to see your web site at your domain, your site must include a file called "index.html." Files called "page1.html" or "home.html" or "default.html" for example, will NOT appear as your primary page when visitors arrive. You should rename it index.html for it to be visible as your site's default home page.

NOTE: Web page file names are case sensitive. Your home page needs to be named "index.html" but "Index.html" or "INDEX.html," for example, will not be shown when someone visits your web address. Also, be sure your file includes the extension .html. If your file name ends with .htm, you may need to resave it as an .html file.

This isn't good- I do hope they get it back ASAP. I noticed a few days ago if you do a google search for "homeschooling" you get www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/home-schooling/ as the fifth hit-- you can't buy that kind of exposure. It even beat out "homeschool central" - I'm not kidding.

No kidding. This is a 100% giant flub. Anyone with a tiny bit of web experience can see it.

I'm also still driving around with a giant decal that sends people to ronpaul2008.com I planned to keep it until at least the end of the general election, and now I'll be forced to remove it if they don't bring the site back in some form or another. The smart thing is to leverage the site and keep it, not just the domain anyway.

How did you get that to copy/paste:) It kept "jumping" from above what I wanted to below what I wanted:)

This will be an issue, though:
It specifies that the home index file *must* have .html as the extension. The original RP2008 used .htm (which does not solve the problem).

That would require all "home" links to have the URL coding changed, just to add the "L" at the end of .htm - a real pain!

NOTE: I did just call and leave a message on the phone number listed in the whois information. Based on a Google search for that number, I also just talked with a "live" RP supporter who might be able to make a personal call to the new admin of the domain.

Grass roots effort, anyone?

I checked earlier - I think most of the individual RP2008.com pages are cached by Google.;)

Ouch, that's one of the reasons I was wondering it was taken down.

I knew they were still getting good traffic to that url. Probably tens of thousands of back links.

Hopefully temporary.

RP2008.com gone for good?

RonPaul2008.com now appears to forward, as previously discussed, to http://www.ronpaulforcongress.com/.

Unfortunately, also as previously discussed, so much for Google searches that included RP2008.com results.

Now, any time someone clicks on a query result link with RP2008.com, they'll get transferred to the *home page* of a political site with no relation to the query result content.

Homeschoolers won't appreciate that!

Look at all the educational opportunities that have just been eliminated.

I have a feeling they'll resurrect most of the content for CfL within a month or so. It'll just take a while to get the links updated everywhere.

We can only hope

Moving content around/rewriting it is one thing.

Losing all of the Google search result links to RP2008 is a much more serious issue.

It appears that RP2008 is now "owned" by the Congressional staff.

CFL is owned by others requiring legal independence, presumably.

The real issue is that all pages of interest on RP2008 must remain active to add forwards for each page to have Google results continue to work.

However, wouldn't such an RP2008 to CFL forwarding "connection" be against laws?

If so, RP's issues, etc. need to be forwarded from RP2008 individual pages to specific *new* pages (1:1) on the Congressional site.

I hope someone will add that "techie" effort to a task list for the Congressional staff/site.

However, given the separation of HQ and Congressional staff and efforts during both campaigns, how will any technical staff in the Congressional office know that a serious issue exists?

Again, it's a shame that this occurred right before today's DC March, as well as invalidating all RonPaul2008.com stickers/references that are still in use there and elsewhere.

Now it redirects to the congressional site, and the first thing that catches the visitor's eye is "Thank You for Helping Ron Win"... Hope not too many old McCain supporters get heart attacks from premature shock. ;)

exactly why someone should buy ronpaul.com and include all those old links

its not like too many people are going to just randomly type in ronpaul2008.com anyway right?

but a lot of people might type in ronpaul.com

Google links, not typing

its not like too many people are going to just randomly type in ronpaul2008.com anyway right?

Please see the previous posts by Bryan and Josh related to Google search results that link to RP2008.com, where people do not type in the URL at all-

And what about all of the RP2008 *advertising* going on at the DC March right now?

RonPaul2008 now forwards to CFL?

Someone else posted that www.ronpaul2008.com now forwards to CFL vs. the July 11 forward of RP2008 to the Congressional site.

Yep, sure does.

As do the Google search results that include:
www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/no-taxes-on-tips/

Is that change in forwarding even legal?

It would be nice if *someone* at least made RP2008 issues and videos available somewhere!

Apparently, those videos are unavailable anywhere else.

Isn't there a major difference for a candidate to forward to a PAC vs. a business like CFL?

Per the CFL donation page:
The Campaign for Liberty is a 501c4 nonprofit. Donations are not tax deductible.

I thought that was why the RP2008 forwarding was intended to go to the Congressional site with posts about e-mails that had been sent out stating that fact.

PACs are ( or should be IMHO) all nonprofit by definition. Their goal isn't to make money, it's to influence political agendas.

Break The Matrix is a for-profit business. CFL is a non-profit, as is the PAC that Romney is linking to. But he isn't forwarding there. It's essentially just an advertisement. Click the bottom and you'll still be sent to MittRomney.com.
