Ron Paul's Debate Day Money Bomb - May 5, 2011 - DebateDay.com

My question here would be: If the debate is being held on the 5th, why are we not doing this on the 4th...?

That's when I'm donating. But there are advantages this way, as it gets people to remember the date of the debate, will get people to watch, and provides an encouragement for donations during the debate through laptops and iphones at debate parties.

cool. hopefully ron will mention the money bomb during the debate.

Chris Wallace: "Congressman Paul, I'd like you to take 30 seconds to comment, it's 6:45 PM and your supporters have raised $12.8 million for you in the past 18 hours with 6 more hours to go...what does this say to you about the grassroots voters in this country in 2011?..."

Good point!

"...setting a new single day fundraising record for American politics, breaking your previous record..."

Wow, that sounds amazing. this needs to happen. I doubt the anchors will bring it up though

Couple rookie questions here if ya'll don't mind. First of all, one may only donate on May 5th, correct?

Also, what is a "common" or even "reasonable" (for lack of better words...) amount for someone to donate? I was thinking I could part ways with $200 and not be affected too badly when the bills come up, but at the same time I might be a little behind depending on when I get my paycheck (shutdown).

And one last thing, I'm currently on Active Duty (stationed overseas) and I would like that to be known for statistical reasons. Is there a way I can ensure that fact is noted?

Hi AndrewD,

You can donate at any time you wish, or are able to. May 5th is the grassroots target for a big jump in donations.

There isn't a "common" or "reasonable" amount. We usually donate what we can. If that means a few cents, it is appreciated. If that means $200, then you are above the curve and that is awesome! Don't put yourself at a disadvantage though.

I believe there is a spot on the donation form where you can select to put down your employer and your job title. Feel encouraged to fill that section out.

The Dude abides!

If you have a lot of friends, below is the code to invite them all to the FB event without clicking on each person. You have to first scroll down to the bottom of your friend list after clicking select friends to invite:

javascript:javascript:var elms=document.getElementsByName("checkableitems[]");for(var count=0;count<elms.length;count++){var t = setTimeout("elms["+count+"].click()",100)}

Just invited over 6,500 people :) Everybody please use this to invite all of your friends.

Can we get this to whoever runs Ron Paul's facebook page? Inviting the 319,000 people who "like" him on facebook would pretty much guarantee a successful money bomb.

And thanks for the code.

That would be awesome. It would probably take the computer awhile to process that many requests, but it may still work with that many people.

We definitely need to spread these kinds of tips around though. I have seen quite a few people with thousands of libertarian friends on Facebook and I doubt most people will take the time to click on every person individually. I've done it before and it takes forever.

They'll bring it up if it isn't big. I sure hope he has his campaign website by then so people aren't wondering in what ways he's allowed to use the money from LibertyPac.

Ok, that does sound like a lot of work, but if we could get the admins for RP's facebook page to do it, I'm pretty sure it would pay off HUGE in donations and publicity.

I looked on the facebook page but couldn't find a way to contact them. I'm assuming its run by some of his congressional staff? I might have to send an email request...

I don't think there will be any question that's the place to donate if a new site doesn't come up though, and pledging should keep people up on any change of plans. Here's how I put it:

http://libertyclick.com/blog/activism/featured-site-debateday-com-rp2012-moneybomb-pledge-site/

DebateDay is a pledge site, not a donation site — you’ll donate directly to the official campaign rather than a 3rd party website or organization. It is unclear at this time whether there will be an official website for the campaign by the time of the debate, but pledging will keep you updated on any change of plans. So barring unforeseen donations will be directed to Ron’s LibertyPAC political action committee.
