Ron Paul wins in Nationwide Zogby Poll

Now there is talk that Alex Jones funded this? No wonder the candidate descriptions are so absurd. If any of those infowars/prison planet people are involved in this, I hope this story gets ignored by the media. Why would we expect anybody to trust this poll if it was funded by somebody with an agenda to support Ron Paul?

And once again, these conspiracy folks do the entire movement a great disservice.

I agree 1000%.

The candidate descriptions are woefully biased. I do support Ron Paul but where is the mention of Romney's plan to reduce marginal tax rates at all levels?

I'm no expert on the other candidate but even I can see through the poll:

Paul: Gets mention of seven major campaign pillars 1. small government 2. individual liberty 3. never raised taxes 4. No on Iraq 5. no on Patriot Act 6. immediate troop withdrawl 7. reform monetary policy.

Romney: Gets slightly skewed representation of two topics: 1. healthcare 2. Iraq. It says Romney advocates leaving troops in Iraq but Romney says he does not expect a long occupation and he would like to bring them home soon .. potentially within months. The characterization of his health plan is written from a negative persective ... "requiring citizens to obtain insurance" instead of a more positive "passed universal healthcare without raising taxes."

Thompson: Gets mention of ONE campaign piller: 1. Iraw. The description emphasizes Thompson's role on TV and makes no mention of his strengths e.g. strong on Federalism, strong on social conservative issues etc.

Giuliani: Gets no mention of his real campaign platform. 1. crime and 2. terrorism are mentioned as previous experience but not in reference to his goals as president. For good measure, the description notes Giuliani is a supporter of Bush (who has record low approval levels himself).

I appreciate the effort but this is clearly a biased poll. In my opinion the results are meaningless.

I disagree. 1. Zogby wrote the poll, not AJ. 2. They did so by copying the bios from the candidates own websites. If you don't like the descriptions, take it up with them.
AJ stated that he only asked for minor changes - like "a great leader" to be removed from a description of Huckabee, since it sounded biased to him.

Not if Democrats aren't voting for Paul in the Republican primaries.

Zogby skewed the press release. Check out their own methodology page where they admit 1009 people were polled. Instead of reporting on the full poll, they only talk about 389 of the responses.

I would not call that spin. Remember, when the polled everyone, I doubt they indicated that the candidates were Republican. Since there were no democratic or independant candidates, Ron Paul's stance was the best strike to them.

Not to mention that some/many probably had an idea of who the bios described, and voted against the supposed frontrunners.

I was afraid the "win" would include Democratic voters. Unless someone can show a study that provides an estimate of the number of Democratic voters that have switched parties in the last few months, the 13% is probably more representative of Paul's support among Republicans.

This is all just embarassing and detrimental to the campaign. Not only did Giuliani win a poll that glorifed Paul, but it was paid for by Alex Jones. I have no personal issue with Jones and admire him completely as a human being, but the same can't be said of the media. Actually, we're lucky as hell Paul didn't win this. The last thing we needed was "Paul wins poll," followed 24 hours later by "9/11 conspiracy theorist wrote the poll."

And while I haven't checked up on this, I highly doubt they really based the other candidates' descriptions on their websites, cuz I always hear Thompson talking about guns (well, when I hear Thompson ).

You're embarrassing yourself by not checking into it. Ron Paul won many demographics in this poll by double digit figures. Zogby chose to focus on only a subsection of the poll for their press release.

Note that the bios of Clinton, Obama and Edwards weren't included. I don't put too much value on the polling data of voters who are registered with the Democratic Party, unless they reside in states that allow those voters to vote in the GOP primary.

Paul needs to have a very good showing in the GOP primaries. I don't think he needs to win, but he needs to do good. Only then will we be able to convince him to run as an independent/third party candidate. At that time, and at that time alone, will the polling data of those Democratic voters come somewhat (many of them will end up voting for Clinton or Obama in the general election) into play.

Everyone in the world wants Ron Paul to be the next President. They just don't know it. Which is entirely the problem we're facing. So this poll doesn't mean much to me.
