Ron Paul "Wins" Libertarian Party primaries in California, Missouri
Posted by Eric A. Garris at 12:05 PM
Libertarians in California and Missouri went to the polls yesterday. Ron Paul was not on either ballot, but he appears to have won anyway.

In California, there were 12 candidates on the Libertarian Party ballot. But write-in votes came in first, well ahead of "top" candidate Christine Smith. Since write-in votes are quite rare in LP primaries, one can assume that most of these votes were for Ron Paul. Unfortunately, since no one filed as an official write-in candidate, these votes will not be tallied for specific candidates. After Smith, the top candidates placed in this order: Steve Kubby, Wayne Allen Root, Bob Jackson, Barry Hess, George Phillies.

In Missouri, "uncommitted" was the big winner, getting the majority of votes cast. Again, one can safely assume that most "uncommitted" supporters actually support Ron Paul.

Maybe he'll run on their ticket

I'd be thrilled to see RP and the freedom message continue but I wonder how much media coverage an LP run would get. He's done it once before (1988). Maybe if his polling numbers nationally were good he could get into the debates. There would certainly be a stark contrast between his platform and that of the dem and repub candidates. Maybe at this time retaining his congressional seat is more important to RP and more useful for continuing the movement?

Maybe Ron Paul will win both the Constitutional Party and Libertarian Party Primaries... and then with all of the massive momentum will also then win a brokered Republican Convention. Three parties against one in November.

If he ran 3rd party, and it was McCain vs Hillary, I think he'd play the part of Ross Perot. What we need is a Perot endorsement and financial backing

don't forget, Ross Perot HATES John McCain. he should back Paul, if only to spite McCain bigtime.

WTF? i wonder how many votes that is. they should have switched to republican if they wanted ron paul

I'm confused as to how he "won" when the article mentions that they won't be counted because he didn't register as a potential Libertarian candidate?

..and this means...?

It is largely symbolic.

But, he is welcome to the LP nomination per the folowing open letter to Paul from the LP: http://www.lp.org/media/article_545.shtml
