Ron Paul: Ukraine Unrest ‘Their Business,’ Not Ours
The unrest in Kiev is a matter for the Ukrainian people to address, not the United States, says Ron Paul. A majority of citizens from both countries would agree with him too, he contends.

"The American people are very leery of getting involved in another squabble in some other country," Paul told Fox News on Wednesday shortly after both sides of the conflict agreed to a truce after two days of violence resulted in 26 deaths. "I would be willing to wager most of the people in the Ukraine would like to see the United States stay out, and they'd like to see the Russians stay out."

The former Texas congressman and Republican presidential candidate expressed his hope for a separation between eastern and western Ukraine given the differences that already exist between both sides. He floated the idea of a confederation between the two sides.

Paul, who has advocated a more isolationist approach for the U.S. throughout his career, said the current situation could serve as the first step towards "trying to set a moral standard" in its foreign policy.

"That's their business, and it certainly isn't ours," he said. "We've tried it for too long, and the American people are sick and tired of it, and we're also out of money."
Duh! I wonder if Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin agree with this. Will you change your mind if they disagree with Ron?

I've always said that my foreign policy views don't like up with those of Cruz, and to a lesser extent Palin. I agree with Ron Paul that the US should stay out of this (it won't and is funding the opposition), I don't agree that Russia should stay out of it, though. A large minority of Ukrainians are ethnically Russian, Russia has a lot of military and economic interests in Ukraine, and many Ukrainians would like to be reunited with Russia.

Russia can do whatever Russia wants to do; that's for Russians to debate.

I'm glad you clarified your position on this. I just wish that those of us in the Liberty movement would recognize the need to prioritize this position and stop giving a pass to candidates who are on board with all other Liberty positions (e.g., Ted Cruz). Making Ron Paul's stance on foreign policy our uncompromising position when it comes to evaluating candidates would solve so many of our other problems (e.g., economics).

Who are you to tell the "liberty movement" what they should or shouldn't agree/disagree with? I'm not saying your stance on foreign policy is wrong by the way.

It just seems a bit presumptuous to tell everyone else what their number one, go to ideal should be.

Yeah, both of them.

For your information, Ukranians HATE Russians with a venom that would leave a Croat's jaw in the dirt for envy.

To assert "many" Ukranians want to be part of Russia is about as credible as claiming one of my goats is responsible for the body of science known as quantum mechanics. The hatred betwen Croats and Serbs is like love compared with how Ukranians feel about the Russians, who starved them to death by the millions.

GTFO.

Have you ever even been to the Ukraine?

A large minority of Ukrainians (and this I mean by citizenship) are ethnic Russians. Ethnic Russians number over 8 million of Ukraine's citizens. The proportion is close to 40% in the eastern regions of Ukraine. In the Crimean peninsula the proportion of ethnic Russians is over 60%, Ukrainians make up less than a quarter of the population there.

Most Ukrainians have a positive view of Russians.

IMO Russia should just guard it's borders and let the EU take over. Once the Ukrainians realized what a colossal fuck up the EU is, they will send the EU packing themselves. NATO has never effectively taken over a country, all they do is create more enemies for themselves.

//oops, thought the thread was about Venezuela...

Korea, Vietnam.... it goes on and on, the United States is like the midget at a nudist camp. It just can't seem to keep it's nose out of everybody else's business.
The United States needs to learn how to stay out of the civil wars of other nations.
