How I took this is that when he didn't Love Big Brother, when he was doing what he wanted, he was a defeatist, and wasn't Happy. Once he had been through Room 101, and was presented with defeat, he became Happy.

The lesson is to live happily, regardless of situation, no matter if you love Big Brother or not. You rule your own life, and have the choice to either be beat down by poor environment, or to work with what you have. If you let the hate of your situation consume you, you will never be happy. Unless, of course, you also have an appointment in Room 101.

What I got out of it... is the Big Brother will eventually win. That was his prediction.
There would be a few of us left one day who would still long for freedom.. who will still not submit... but eventually, we will tire... and will fall into the collective group.

I don't disagree, I was just exploring another theme. The Big Brother aspect of the story is what we should be fighting against, for sure. But in 1984 "Big Brother" was the background, the environment. Of course 'it' wasn't going to change, the character changed.

In our story (the non-fiction we're writing as we live), Big Brother is the "bad guy" we're fighting against. Our conflict is external, and we can win this fight as we enjoy our lives.

We can lift a payload of a few pounds to orbit levels (not yet factoring in maintaining orbit) with fuel costs on the order of 1000s of Fed Reserve Note$, not Millions or Billions.

+1 it will burn up when it explodes from bad science, not reentry. And it wont be nearly as costly as the blimp!

This is a perfect example of why things tend to simply not work out in this movement. People give constructive criticism, and others start a fight over it.

And yes, it would burn up. Cardboard tends to burn very easily That is, unless your planning on another material, in which case that would certainly cost you a fortune to get it up into space.

other materials aren't as much as you guys think. we have people who can design the parts, and machining them wont be a big deal. we can make circuits like candy now days, electronics can be bought from radio shack. This isn't 1963.
