The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of Ron Paul Raids so you can get a better understanding of it before participating.

YouTube is the largest video-sharing website on the Internet. Hundreds of thousands of people visit the site everyday. Ron Paul Raids is a team effort that seeks to bombard YouTube videos with a specific message related to Ron Paul by obtaining top comment spots. It is one of the more effective ways to promote Ron Paul online.

Participation

- All you need is a YouTube account. Don't have one? Don't worry, it is fast and easy to create.

- At least 5 people at a given time for it to be effective (see Time(s)), ideally 8+ or it shall be canceled.

Objectives

Primary

- "Thumb up" the raid leader's (see Raid leader) comment on the selected video. The goal is to get it as a top comment.

- "Thumb down" the current top comments on the video (if any) even if it is a so called "non-productive" pro-Ron Paul comment. However, do not "thumb down" any "productive" pro-Ron Paul top comments that encourages grassroots activism i.e. (regeristring GOP to vote Ron Paul, phone from home, etc.) Use your best judgement to distinguish between "productive" and "non-productive" pro-Ron Paul comments.

Secondary

- Consider liking and favoriting the targeted video if it is pro-Ron Paul and especially if the pro-Ron Paul video is new. The most liked and favorited new videos on YouTube receive "honors" which make them appear on more visible pages such as YouTube's front page and the "most favorited today" page. It helps the video's chances of going viral.

The favorite option is under the "Add-to" bar which is to the right of the "like/dislike" bar.

Location

Ron Paul Raids will be conducted in two places, the Ron Paul Forums chat room in a room called “Ron Paul Raids” and of course YouTube.

Why a chat room over threads

This is a past criticism although the raid leader (see Raid leader) will still make a thread with the linked videos that were targeted after the raid is finished. It will be the raid leader’s job. In the past, threads were made for this purpose but they became ineffective and obsolete because we found out that many people must “thumb up” the comment around the same time to have the best chance to grab a top comment spot. Otherwise it falls off the first page and gets lost amongst others. A chat room is better for this kind of coordination. Again, a thread will be made for other forum members and guests to "thumb up" comments later.

Raid leader

The raid leader is the person that places a comment on a YouTube video and posts a link to that video in the chat room for the other participants to “thumb up” (see Objectives). It is at the raid leader’s discretion which videos to target. As a raid leader you have a huge responsibility on deciding which videos to comment on, and to think of unique messages to place on each video in order to bypass YouTube’s spam filter. Being a fast typer also helps but it is not at all required to be a raid leader.

Ideally, there shall be no more than 2 raid leaders at a given time. One active and a backup, but one is all that is needed.

How to avoid the spam mark

It is essential as a raid leader that you mix up your comments for each video. Do not copy and paste comments, it will be marked spam. Do not partially copy and paste comments, it will probably be marked spam. When the first Ron Paul Raids began during the promotion of Black THIS Out we encountered the spam mark constantly. We think we have the system figured out. Make the comments different for each video.

Possible videos to target

As previously stated, it is up to the raid leader for which videos to target but it is recommended that you select Ron Paul videos, trending/most viewed today videos or news/political videos with lots of views. One great way to look for recent Ron Paul videos is to type "ron paul, today" into the search bar. It filters out videos related to Ron Paul that have been uploaded today. To look for popular videos to target click the browse link to the right of the search bar.

Chat room etiquette

In order to stay organized and focused on the objectives of Ron Paul Raids, it is good practice to maintain a degree of etiquette while in the Ron Paul Raids chat room. The designated raid leader(s) shall be the only ones posting the video links. After the link is posted by the raid leader the other participants should type “done” when they complete the objectives (see Objectives).

An example of RPR etiquette:

[Raid leader] Comment placed: hxxp://www.youtube.com/tu..xyz?
[user a] done
[user b] done
[user x] done
[user y] done
[user z] done

It best serves all participants to keep unrelated chat to a minimum. Although it is not much of a concern with 5-10 people, this guideline applies more if there are 15+ participants at one time. The unrelated chat clutters the chat room and it becomes a nuisance. Confusion sets in. If you must have a conversation with someone like suggesting videos to the raid leader please utilize the private messaging feature.

Time(s) 9:30 PM EST

Consensus has been reached to have the Ron Paul Raids start around 9:30 PM EST. Assuming that people are hopefully doing grassroots activities during the day, i.e. phone from home. The phone from home system shuts down around 9 PM CST in Iowa so by having it at night we’re counting on the idea that more people may be available to participate as there is less things to do for grassroots at that time.

The length of one night of Ron Paul Raids will last approx. 30 min -1 1/2 hours but no longer than 2 hours at the most (depends on the number of willing participants).

Nights

Consensus has not yet been reached as for the nights to have Ron Paul Raids on. Our current operation is the Tea Party moneybomb promotion (see Operations), and a few people have expressed interest in having it almost every night from now until Dec. 16 but some want it only on the night of a GOP debate. Reply with your thoughts on the nights to have it in this thread (I will update this later).

Operations

Past, ongoing, and possible future Ron Paul Raid operations:

- Oct. 17-19: Black THIS Out moneybomb promotion (complete)
- *ONGOING* Nov. 22 - Dec. 16: TeaParty11 moneybomb promotion
- Post-Dec. 16: TBD (discuss)

Bump for one of the more productive things we can be doing to support ron on the internet.

Would probably be diffiuclt to link all the vids in the OP?

There will be a different thread created for the linked videos and will be posted after every "nightly raid". The main intention I had for making this thread was to explain to people what Ron Paul Raids is and all the nuances involved, and to get feedback on it. I want planning for future RPR operations to take place here. Also, I want everyone interested to post their thoughts on times (nights) doing this in here where we can come to a consensus.

This is an incredible idea and I'm definitely interested in helping out.

Thanks for doing the write-up, and all the help since the raids started, 1stAmendguy! And TomtheTinker for helping get it rolling again. Considering the fact that we were actively raiding for BlackThisOut (which was very successful) and last night before a pretty good day in donations, it really does seem like a worthwhile endeavor.

I have been wondering how often would be good to do this. It has occurred to me that the earlier we catch videos the better - if a video has 18,000 views, probably most of those won't be returning and will therefore miss our message. So to achieve the maximum effect, it would make sense to raid often enough to catch videos before they become viral or highly viewed. A raid every other day or even every day would be ideal for this goal, but they could probably be shorter as there wouldn't be as many videos to target. The question is, could we get enough people interested to spend 30 min or an hour a day on this project? Or would burnout be too high?

We are getting to an absolutely crucial stage of the campaign, where they need every penny they can get as quickly as possible, so extraordinary efforts may be in order.

Also, it may be worth exploring the potential of this concept in other areas of the internet. It has proven very effective in this instance once we got the bugs worked out, and it would be amazing if we could gradually increase our reach and effect. One long-range problem I foresee for the Revolution is funding enough candidates to make a difference on a grand scale, and a refined, smoothly-operating system like this could potentially help alleviate those concerns, or become a tactic like the moneybomb itself. However, the most bang for the buck right now is doubtless focusing on winning the presidential race, and until we work out other mediums carefully (as we did for Youtube,) it's likely best to keep it as simple as possible until people are familiar with the concept.

The forum would be the best place to discuss ideas. Once in the chat room, it's most efficient to stay focused on the objective and methodology at hand.

1st, you've obviously done your research and I think you've got a great idea and thanks for spearheading this. But I'm just confused by what I think I'm reading here. Youtube bases favorites on how many thumbs-ups a COMMENT on a video gets? That's just seems weird. I never even read comments on videos.

Perhaps you could also do a morning thread with a youtube pick for those of us who aren't going to be here at a particular hour and go to a chat room for instructions. Let us know what we need to do on youtube to increase the odds of the video gaining traction. If you just edited the same post daily with the latest video, we could bookmark the thread and check it. I don't know; just trying to figure out a way that more of us can help.

Favorites are not related to the comments on the video. There is a seperate link you click to add the video to your favorites. To the right of the like/dislike bar is a button called "Add-to", favorites is one of the option. I'll make a link in my OP to the most recent raid thread with linked videos. This thread I had in mind mainly to inform people about RPR and to discuss future planning.

Since the "Serial hypocrisy" video is going viral thanks to Drudge I suggest we do a RPR tonight at 9:30 PM EST to capitalize on it.
