ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – In response to an article published by The New Republic, Ron Paul issued the following statement:

“The quotations in The New Republic article are not mine and do not represent what I believe or have ever believed. I have never uttered such words and denounce such small-minded thoughts.

“In fact, I have always agreed with Martin Luther King, Jr. that we should only be concerned with the content of a person's character, not the color of their skin. As I stated on the floor of the U.S. House on April 20, 1999: ‘I rise in great respect for the courage and high ideals of Rosa Parks who stood steadfastly for the rights of individuals against unjust laws and oppressive governmental policies.’

“This story is old news and has been rehashed for over a decade. It's once again being resurrected for obvious political reasons on the day of the New Hampshire primary.

“When I was out of Congress and practicing medicine full-time, a newsletter was published under my name that I did not edit. Several writers contributed to the product. For over a decade, I have publically taken moral responsibility for not paying closer attention to what went out under my name.”

..in conclusion, the author's name is: ?

Man, I'd love to know who this mother was

Good response. Copy & paste everywhere that's talking about the smear and allowing comments!

Exactly what Andrew Sullivan said he should do.

Andrew Sullivan should go do the media / PR work for the campaign.

Nothing to see here, move along...

Seriously, this was the exact same smear that has already been tried twice before during this campaign cycle. The fact that someone is stupid enough to try it a third time just shows how little dirt there is on Ron Paul.

Good statement, although I do wish Paul would name names. This has gone on long enough.

You have to fight fire with fire.

Naming names now would beg the question "Why didn't you name names before? Are you just outing these people now for political reasons?"

No, before it was a single article in a 1992 newsletter. Now its a ton of different articles spread out over a decade. The latter is quite a bit more devastating.

Yes, he should name names.

No he shouldn't and he won't. That is not his style.
He will say he didn't write it; but he apologizes for it getting out there.

Ron Paul is not one to make it personal.
The reason he will not name the person, is why Ron Paul is the better person.

He needs to name names, and assure the black community that a member of Congress doesn't really believe all those vile things written about them.
