Ron Paul on Face the Nation on Sunday 2/12/12

He didn't say that. He said,

"he can beat Obama, but I think YOU also need someone who can appeal to Independents and Democrats, and if people look carefully at what I've been talking about, they will see that my message does have an appeal across the political spectrum."

Initially, I definitely heard "he". But now when I listen again, it definitely could have been "you"...

In one of the debates RP said any of the candidates on stage could beat Obama, so I interpreted his comments as a way to slowly start backing away from that statement. Nothing but softball questions, and Ron did turn them around to say the other 3 are basically all the same, and he's the only one who offers real change.

what i heard ron paul say was nothing basically. that is the point. What i heard him do was make sure he got a date with romney!

what i heard ron paul say was nothing bascially. that is the point. What i heard him do was make sure he got a date with romney!

I don't know if that was his intent, nor do I know whether he has secret plans to hope that he gets some sort of position out of a Romney administration. But should Ron Paul not get the nomination, if it means he doesn't have to compromise his principles, I would rather he gets what he can out of the situation, for the sake of us all.

For me, it's NOBP, and I wouldn't vote for Romney regardless.

Ron as VP?...hmm..does Ron have access to Mitts medical records, and perhaps knows something we and everyone else doesn't?...tune in next week for the exciting conclusion on...'I'm a Badass, and you're not'....

It's obvious from past and present interviews of Mitten and Ron... there's a deal cut. I'm okay with that for now, because the other megalomaniacs (Newtron Moon Base Alpha & Crusading Dominionist Santorum) need to be routed.

But Gesus... How many Mitt Romney questions did 'Face The Shill' Bob Scheiffer ask? Downright ridiculous.

I see ABC's THIS WEAK... gave Santorum 11 minutes of coverage. When you hear these clowns constantly having to state they are conservative, you know they're a bust.

The weakest point of the ABC piece was Santorum's interview about his, "Women and too emotional to serve combat rolls". Frothy's answer, My wife who's a Nurse and Lawyer, help me write the book.

Anybody think Santorum's wife may just be too emotional?

All these other Establishment candidate are walking sacks of contradictions and lies, but the Fascist Totalitarian Regimes constantly prop them up.

The die has been cast people.. Romney has made a deal w Paul... Romney/Paul 2012..you heard it here first..

Really? You have evidence of this how? Has it occurred to anyone that it may be a way of making it look like Santorum and/or Gingrich can't win on the off chance that either of them start surging in the Southern primaries? Let's face it...RP has a better chance of winning against Romney, where their differences in true Conservatism are much easier pointed out than trying to parse who is the most conservative with Newt and Frothy fans. Just a thought....there are miles to go before we sleep.

The interview was actually pretty decent compared to the last time RP was on.

As for the RP being VP talk, I'm more of a subscriber to the Trojan Horse. RP dropping hints that he could be appeased with a VP spot which puts Romney and the GOP at ease. Fast forward to Tampa where we thrust RP to the nomination. Argument being if RP is good enough to be VP, why the heck not President? The MSM would eat up talk of RP being someones VP. It could play into our hands.

maybe the gop is driving me crazy. i have never been so angry in my life. I was a peace loving hippie until i reg republican. being a republican is starting to feel like being a moonie. i need to be kidnapped and decoded from being republican or something.

after that interview all i can think of is love songs for mittens,

Dude, if you need mental reprogramming go for it, you don't need anyone's permission, though you've got mine if you need it ;)

If Ron Paul were 10X's as popular as he is in raising money he could possibly consider running independent, but the moment he would consider it he would burn all bridges he's built since he's been back in the Republican party after running Libertarian last time.

'cept this time he actually has a legacy of 'Ron Paul' Republicans that is currently growing and stands to gain momentum in 2012 even if Ron Paul doesn't win the White House.

It's a hard pill to swallow, especially with the likes of Santorum calling for elimination of libertarianism from the Republican Party, but at least that is where the fight is being made.

The Democrats have nothing to offer, Obuma is nothing more than Bush III, and no 3rd party can make a difference.

As far as short-term campaign strategy I really don't know, maybe it's better for Paul and Romney to force at least one if not both other contenders out of the race. Romney thinks he can more easily consolidate his position and beat Paul one-on-one and Paul thinks that he can garner enough delegates to win via a brokered convention. No long term deal just short term cooperation.

And besides, if Romney has truly been respectful and gentlemanly towards Ron, both during this campaign and the last, then I fully expect Ron to be respectful back.

But we'll have to see how this turns out. Personally I'm sticking with Ron Paul since I really trust him to make the best deal possible, not for his own personal gain but for liberty, peace, and sound money.

Initially, I definitely heard "he". But now when I listen again, it definitely could have been "you"...

I listened repeatedly and to my ears the word came out as "he". But I don't believe that was what he intended to say or convey.
I think it was one of those garbled, stumbled, stuttering moments that Ron is prone to.
The kind were he changes his thought process mid-way before finishing a sentence.
I think to interpret this as vying for the VP slot is way off base. You'll have to do a lot better than this to convince me that is a consideration entertained by either Romney or Paul.
Romney would NOT offer, and Paul would NOT accept.

As much as I think we would all love to see Ron have a go at Romney i think it should be recognized this 'truce' makes alot of sense from a broader perspective.

Its a two way street, Romney has also been pretty damn complimentary to Ron and that definitely works in our favour and brings some support our way. Also Ron isnt targeted by any of the negative ads from super rich Romney. I mean Romney was nearly able to singlehandedly destroy Gingrich with those. So although its frustrating that Romney doesnt take Romney head on, I think its smart strategy and in this interview in particular he came across quite presidential and balanced. I think alot of the battle for this campaign has been to remove the crazy wacky image of Ron as a fringe figure and make him and his message more presentable to the public. So while I would love to see Ron go all out i think this more diplomatic approach will pay off in the long run.

He never should have said Romney could beat Obama, because he won't. The only way this shakes out is Obama or Paul in 2012 and to lay odds, I would have to say Obama 90%, Paul 10% chance at this point. This "NOBP" thing is not just a cliche anymore, the GOP is creating some major battle scares with us supporters that will never heal.

Paul is honest, of course Romney could beat Obama.

don't expect much on the moneybomb feb 14th now . edit he had a few times he could of crushed romney on conservatism but he choose to make sure he could get a date with romney.

what kind of bullshit is this? one interview and you're already encouraging people not to donate to an important moneybomb?

he clearly says 'you'. he's not talking about Romney.

He's saying 'Yes, Romney could beat Obama, but really you need me as nominee to clinch it'. Wording could have been clearer, but he's definitely not talking about being VP.
