Ron Paul on Daily Show TONIGHT Monday 9/26

"I have never seen Ron Paul. John Stewart asked hard questions and pressed the issues. Mr. Paul answered the questions, not gave talking points. He seems to have a deep knowledge of the issues... A suprising find. Keep fighting to; I'll use the phrase I heard "cure my apathy". Life Long Democrat. Steven"

1. He has never seen Ron Paul before? That seriously scares me.

I was a regular FOX News viewer from like July 2009 to March 2011 and I had never heard of Ron Paul... until I found a youtube video in March... when I decided to stop being a regular FOX viewer =)

There are many who watch the news sparingly and haven't heard Paul's name.

At least you know who the good man Doug Casey is :p

agh Ron..

You know you're a paulite when you can start to answer the questions in your head better than Ron himself.

ahem.. "Well, Jon, do you really think that our government today is REALLY accountable to the people, or is it accountable to special interests? Being in washington as long as I have, I can tell you, the latter is true."

Cool glad to hear it and welcome! I suppose you're right.

I thought Paul did a good job. I liked how he pointed out that he'd leave things to the states, that you're able to have a greater say in state's issues, and that in a libertarian society there wouldn't be rampant pollution like people think there would be.

Aye. Pollution used to be almost non-existent due to Nuisance Laws in our early history which were merely the Courts recognizing the natural right of property and that no individual or organization has the right to infringe upon your natural liberties namely, life, liberty, and its extension property.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuisance_in_English_law

Until the Legislatures butted in and started to lord over the courts as their personal jurisprudence for the Corporations and business interests, free-market environmentalism worked wonderfully. The problem always has been and always will be Corporatism, which as we know here is Big Government and Private interests collusion. Furthermore, regulations are merely an extension of that collusion and serve to insulate Private interests from competition, default & bankruptcy (aka failure), and low profit margins as a result of free-market forces (namely consumers). Libertarians have been railing against this for over 200 years, and at one time Progressives used to know this simple fact (Williamson, Kolko, et. al), but today you see them cheering for Obamacare which in reality is nothing more than Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, etc. guaranteed profit-care, just like with automative insurance which is just as much a scam and racket.

Liked the interview, first part showed that Ron has a legitimate shot at the nomination, second part demonstrated his vision for local governments taking over federal regulations.

This interview isn't going to create a surge in the polls for Ron, but there is nothing he could have said to make that happen. Daily Show just doesn't have pull in the republican primary.

Oh, we are certainly aiming to have Jon Stewart viewers registering Republican and voting for Ron Paul. Who knows exactly how many, but we want those votes. We pretty much have to have them.

Jon Stewart said "you need to flip flop on Iran". Ron Paul said no way. Now, who likes that position of Ron Paul's more? Likely Republican Primary Voters? Or Jon Stewart Viewers? The positions that Ron Paul takes are appealing to Jon Stewart viewers. We have to try to get their votes.

I'm not arguing that the campaign itself do this. I'm not arguing that Ron Paul craft his message to appeal to Jon Stewart's viewers. But he does go on Jon Stewart and say things that everyone there seems to like. The grassroots needs to try to get those people. Lots of those people live in dorms. Register them, get them to the polls.

Pretty fair. Challenging questions but that it what it takes.
I like the fact they got the war issue in the first segment and then the honest politician came in the seocnd.
The honest politician is a big deal for liberals given how Obama turned out. You can find people how disagree over any policy but I never meet a person who doesn't want honesty.

I wanted to add, "But liberty creates a form of accountability far more powerful than a vote once every few years: free choice. If I believe a business is functioning in a corrupt and immoral manner, I can withdraw my money immediately, and spread the word so that others do the same. If I believe the government is functioning in a corrupt and immoral manner, I can't withdraw my support without going to jail. This is how they get away with the endless war and abuse."

I recommend watching it at least once on the daily show site so they can track it.

Still I should say 'great work' ronpaulflix.

A few thoughts on some of the discussion in this thread:

Jon Stewart – I personally would have never looked into Ron Paul if it wasn’t for the likes of Stewart bringing him up during the 2007 debates and subsequently had them on their shows. I am sure there are shows directed towards “conservatives” (the currently accepted definition of the term) that have done the same for people who came from that direction as these shows did for me. That is, they introduced Ron Paul and the principle of liberty to an audience that would not be inclined to look his way because of the national debate is currently framed by most media as some sort of football game (establishment Democrats vs. establishment Republicans). In the long run, it’s important to recognize that shows like this that provide a very valuable platform for Ron Paul to reach audiences that wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to him.

The Interview Questions – The first segment was purely satire and primarily focused on those issues where liberals agree with Ron Paul (the wars, the finicky nature of voters, etc.). I thought two questions that Stewart asked in the second segment were fantastic because they are the two principles of Ron Paul’s philosophy that I had the most difficult time wrapping my head around when I was started seriously considering Ron Paul. I assume a significant percentage of Stewart’s audience probably has the same difficulty:

1. How can a free market provide better protection for its citizens than government regulations?
2. Are the only two choices liberty and tyranny?

Ron Paul’s answers – I think all of us have the “perfect” response in our minds but they are only perfect to us because they are the conclusions we have drawn based on a lot more thought and time than can possibly be available in any interview. I think it’s important to remember that all of us arrived “here” from a variety of different starting points through a variety of different paths. There is no “perfect” response. It takes each person a different “moment” where they decide to challenge their current thinking. That is not an easy or comfortable decision to make and it is what I think is the biggest obstacle to Ron Paul’s candidacy. I think generally, Ron Paul provided good answers that will cause some to look deeper into his viewpoints and philosophy. I think it’s unrealistic to expect more out of this or other appearances.

IMO Ron comes over really rough Stewart's show with his responses to the economic questions. He should never phrase his answers in terms of "going back to the good times", because on matters such as working conditions and basic human rights for minorities and women, there are no good times to go back to.

When issues like environmental regulation come up he should emphasize that individuals have the right to sue corporations to protect their property and health--and that that is a better form of regulation than a central agency that can be bought and controlled by lobbyists.
