Listening to those callers is really important because we have to be able to understand the point of view potential voters. We can't assume that everyone will understand our positions, a la the
false consensus effect.
The last caller, presumably a black woman, said that she feels, as either a black or a poor person, that Ron Paul does not speak about issues that impact her as an individual. And to a certain extent, that attitude is a big concern. Consider how many of us were "apathetic" about politics, despite the fact that we knew politicians were making decisions of grave importance. Somehow, that affect does not trickle down to the average Joe or Jane and we are left either not caring or voting for the person who promised the most visible change, e.g. welfare programs, medicaid, etc.
Rather than laughing at these people who "don't get it," we should be taking notes! We know that Ron Paul's message can apply to anyone. Therefore, we have to appeal to those people so they understand why it's so important!
For starters, Ron Paul's message is about empowerment. Big government, as evidence in New Orleans and other cities affected by Katrina, has shown that it has no competence in disaster relief. All that money that we give in taxes is filtered through a bureaucracy, and withheld pending "proper" appropriation. In other words, the people who are most in need see none of their money. What we need to emphasize to people like that woman is that Ron Paul's message is about empowering communities and local government, as well as individuals, by cutting taxes and allowing people to keep their hard-earned income, and also keeping federal bureaucracy and restriction out.
Ron Paul has said many times that change will be difficult because our system creates dependence. This is how Big Government stays in power. We need to encourage people and get them excited about Ron Paul's vision: creating a system where you aren't stuck fighting the system.
If we're going to win this election, we have to never forget the
inclusive and
empowering message of FREEDOM.
