Ron Paul MUST run as a 4rd party candidate...

Anti-war and Anti-socialism don't mix. As 3rd party, he won't be pulling anyone away from either the Democrats or the Republicans.

He cannot run 3rd... He wouldn't win, and he would cause the republicans to lose, causing the democrats to win.

Why do you think McCain/Romney/Huckabee can win without RP supporters if RP is not in the race, but lose if he runs 3rd party? Do you think we will just throw our principles out the window?

It does NOT matter whether Ron Paul runs third party or not. If he does not get the nomination then the Republican party will lose his supporters.

This is absolutely true.

I'm a Ron Paul Republican and have no allegiance to the GOP.

In Hiltery- McCain race I could see RP winning the popular vote, but gasp the electoral college will screw him over. The reason I say this is because the conservative wing of the republican party would never vote for McCain and the fact 50-60% of Americans refuse to vote for Hillary. If Ron Paul could pull in both crowds he could theoretically win the popular vote, but we all know the popular vote doesn't count. So therefore with 2% of the vote your new president is former first lady Hillary Clinton who has decided to allow her opponent who also had 2% of the vote to be her Vice President. There was another candidate that took 96% of the popular vote but we saw him as to fringe to be president so as dedicated electors we came to a compromise.

I just love you folks that pull out your crystal balls and tell the future.

GOP Loyalist.:D

Yeah, Ummm remember when the original George Bush was running for president... What candidate decided to run third-party and split the vote between republicans and got Bill Clinton as president?

Run-on ftw

Yeah, I do remember that election. I wrote in Ron Paul, didn't care for Andre, I mean he was a nice guy, but not what I wanted.

It turned out like I thought. Do you really think the 19 million folks that went for Perot would have voted for Bush?

I think you're dreaming.

They voted for Perot.

If it wasn't for the incessant cries of the GOP Loyalists of the time that Perot was stealing votes from Bush maybe more folks would have voted their conscience and voted for Perot.

I see that fantasy is still alive and well.

I'm fairly certain...

I'm fairly certain that the 18 or 19% that Perot picked up that night were made up of mostly disenchanted voters that finally had a choice.

If I remember right the voter turnout was only a little more than 50%.

1000 points of light, yeah right.:D

So...it's defeatist to talk about a third party run, yet you plan on staying home on election day if Ron Paul doesn't get the nomination, instead of exploring other options that would give you an option other than the "two evils?"

I think it's more than obvious that Paul can't win against the Republican establishment, and I think it's up to Dr. Paul to decide where he wants to go now. But it's a little disingenuous to say you won't support him past the GOP nomination, yet call the GOP evil.

Well said!

Drop the 3rd party talk. Paul has said he has no intentions of doing it, that the system is biased against 3rd party candidates to even get on the ballots, and he's a 10-term republican to boot.

Well actually, he said he had no intention to do that at that time. He left himself an out if he wants it.

I've been a Republican my whole life, and other than a Ron Paul win, I want the Republicans to lose.

They don't deserve a win! They treat their party members with disrespect!

If a Clinton presidency helps to wake them up or better yet take them down, then so be it!

I'll hold my gold and wait it out!

While it's too early to talk about a third party run until at LEAST after we see where things position us after Super Tuesday where we have SEVERAL states where we may have VERY strong showings as evidenced by the straw polls, to rule OUT a possible third party run under the right circumstances is also something I doubt the campaign would do. Those circumstances would require:

1) Ron Paul to FAIL in winning the Republican nomination.
2) Ron Paul's campaign still having a LARGE base of support nationwide and a LARGE amount of grassroots funding left in the bank and continuing to come in.
3) The Libertarian Party would have to nominate him, ensuring his name on the ballots in a majority of states already.
4) Bloomgberg would pretty much have to run for a Ron Paul third party run to make sense. With 4 candidates on the ballot, then the playing field would be relatively even and pushing forward with the Libertarian nod would make perfect sense.

I can virtually guarantee you that the campaign is already exploring the options and circumstances and have come up with what I have presently put forth to you as the ONLY circumstances under which the campaign would push through with a third party run. So let's focus on where we are first and stop giving up before we've even begun! Super Tuesday is still to come, and we won't know ANYTHING until then. Third party runs can be explored when there's a clear winner of the Republican nomination IF that clear winner isn't Dr. Paul. Until then, it's just putting the cart before the horse!
