I don't know if this is the right sub-forum or not, but I was wondering how many of us are current or former members of the military? I was thinking it would be a good idea if we could use this to encourage each other...

I believe back in 2008, Ron Paul received a significant amount of money from current and former military members, I can't find any sources. Could anyone post the info here?

Just a quick search...

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, the congressman from the Houston area who opposes the Iraq war, has gotten more contributions than any other White House contender from donors identified as affiliated with the military. According to a Houston Chronicle analysis of campaign records from January through September, Paul received $63,440 in donations from current military employees and several retired military personnel.
Democrat Barack Obama, another war critic, was second in military giving. The Illinois senator got $53,968 during the nine months.
He was followed by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz, a decorated Navy pilot and former Vietnam prisoner of war, who received $48,208 in military-related giving. McCain has been one of the most vigorous defenders of President Bush’s decision this year to increase U.S. troops in Iraq.

I heard that he received more active-duty military campaign contributions than any other candidate in 2008, but I don't recall seeing the cite.

EDIT: looks like the truth is not as pleasant as I thought:

Notice from your quote ... Obama brought in donations under the false pretense of being in favor of bringing troops home from Iraq. I bet he doesn't get nearly what he got the next time around.
"Obama, an Illinois senator, brought in more donations from this group [active-duty military] than any White House contender from either party. The Democrat announced Wednesday his plan to withdraw all U.S. troops from Iraq by the end of 2008.

Paul, a Texas congressman and the only GOP presidential hopeful who supports an immediate troop withdrawal, comes in second."

The vast majority of jobs in the military have nothing to do with violence. I'm an air traffic controller. Do you want to see American pilots crash into each other? No? How about the guys who work in the hospital. Should our soldiers die without treatment? No?

Go fuck yourself.

ATC here as well.

Ron Paul military supporters need to man up and admit they screwed up if any of them participated in the wars Dr. Paul opposes so much

Are you absolutely clueless, socially inept or are you just completely lacking respect??

I joined the Army Reserves prior to 9/11/01 and suddenly we were thrown into Bush's Wars. I ended up serving in Iraq in '03-'04 in a postal company (we ran the mail). I didn't have much of a choice. They told us that conscientious objectors might be made to serve in theater anyway and then thrown in jail afterward. So I did my job, came home and now am part of the Liberty Movement.

How did I screw up?
