Alaskans may nominate fringe candidate

by Channel 2 News Staff
Monday, Dec. 10. 2007

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- In a poll conducted Monday, Dec. 10, Channel 2 News asked which GOP presidential candidate Alaskan Republicans plan to support in the Super Tuesday caucus.

A slim majority of respondents support Ron Paul, a Texas congressman known for wanting to abolish the IRS and opposing the Iraq War.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who's surging in national polls as well as Iowa caucus polls, came in a close second.

Which Republican presidential candidate will you support in Alaska's caucus?

Rudy Giuliani -- 14%
Mike Huckabee -- 22%
John McCain -- 9%
Ron Paul -- 29%
Mitt Romney -- 9%
Fred Thompson -- 12%
Other -- 6%

All polls conducted by Channel 2 News and KTUU.com are unscientific.

Ron Paul leading in Alaska poll!

According to the campaign website. It's a landline poll, too!

29-22% is a "slim margin???"

Now serving... One heaping-helping of frozen moose droppings. :)

Pat Buchanan did very well in Alaska in 96. Just like Pat did well in New Hampshire and Iowa.

So Ron Paul has a chance to reach the same numbers.

This is Awesome. The first poll that places Ron Paul in 1st place in a state. Very cool and good work you Alaskan Paulites.

As alaska goes, so goes the nation

Alaskans will come down here to the lower 48 and whoop up on everyone with a polar bear jaw if any states doesn't vote for Ron Paul. It kinda scares me so me thinketh that we should make sure Ron Paul is in first place in every state.

Spread this poll far and wide.

makes sense. i imagine Alaska feels very disconnected to the USA--in more than one way--and they probably don't want the federal gov't telling them what to do because since Alaska is so separate, what's good for the rest of the country probably isn't good for them.

Go Alaska!

Actually, I thought this was an online poll...

I think I voted in it.

It is great to see a poll that is favorable toward Ron Paul for a change. The national polls affilitated with the MSM are most likely skewed to promote thy top tier candidates. With that in mind why don't we Ron Paul supporters hire and independent pollster to conduct polls in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina? Assuming the results are favorable toward Dr. Paul, we could send them to all of the local television, radio, and print media outlets in those States. Any comments?

Where's Rasmussen?

Note to "old media": Quick, get Rasmussen up there! I'm sure we can get a 4% polling number for the Doc.

Can someone tell them that 29% is not a majority?

It is a plurality.

I was thinking the exact same thing. There has been such a brain drain in the profession of news reporting that people don't even know simple vocabulary anymore...

Let's not get too excited, though, guys. The poll says it's unscientific, which suggests that it was an internet poll.
