I was in the 3rd grade when this happened. My parents thought it was a coup both of my parents voted for JFK My dad voted for Goldwater after the assassination my mother voted for Johnson.
The year before children were made very afraid about the threat of bombs my school had drills on what we were supposed to do if the bombs went off. We were instructed to go to a huge underground pipe system that had an entrance on the edge of the school property that was so large that all of the students and teachers could easily walk into. My younger brother said he was going to run home and protect our dog. I had decided that I would also run home to protect my brother. Our house was very close to the school and I knew I could escape from the adults supervising at the school and they would be too afraid to chase me being only one kid.
