NEW ORLEANS – Eying another presidential bid, Texas Rep. Ron Paul is telling Republican activists that "the American people have awoken" because Washington won't address the nation's fiscal crisis.

Paul ran for the GOP presidential nomination in 2008. He spoke Saturday to the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, a so-called cattle call of potential presidential candidates.

Paul brought to the event a large contingent of boisterous supporters. Following Paul's lead, they booed some traditional GOP policies that lead to government spending.

Says Paul: "The reason why the American people have awoken ... is because the country is broke and the people in Washington won't admit it."

Good work folks---I raise my drink (very soon) to you!
God Bless!

Anyone think the "Drudge is an Idiot" thread got him a little rattled and brought him back to his sense ?

Or is he realizing that Ron Paul is "money in the bank" for his site now ?

no. I doubt he reads this forum.

"Many other attendees remained silent or offered only polite applause during Paul's speech. Paul won the Conservative Political Action Conference in February on the strength of his passionate if limited following." htt p://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20002208-503544.html (Emphasis added, mine)

Funny how the msm is still trying to downplay CPAC results.

/me sighs.

You would probably be wrong. I've read many times here that Drudge and Breitbart monitor these forums. I wouldn't be able to prove it, but Drudge is a Civil Liberties guy (except for warfare) and I'm sure he has his people keeping tabs, as we have our ears to the ground.

Better would be Ron Paul nabs 2nd Place in Straw Poll!

but' we'll take it, its middle top. :)

slowing turning the ship....

Ignoring the ubiquitous "long shot bid", to see "he not a Socialist, he's a Corporatist" is going to definately get people to think.

I don't recall him getting this good of drudge placement after winning CPAC. I think he was bottom right. Still shoulda got the treatment Mitt is getting for this win after CPAC, but middle center is pretty good for a technical second place finish.

Love this quote:

"How exactly is Paul a "longshot bid" when he basically tied Romney at the SRLC meeting straw poll recently? Usually, the next republican nominee is identified at this meeting as one of the top candidates present. Romney beat out Paul in their straw poll by a measly 1 vote. However, Romney didn't even bother to show up at this important meeting (which basically makes him a light weight).

It is, of course, way too early to tell who exactly will have the nomination but we can be pretty certain that it will be one of four candidates....Romney, Paul, Palin or Gingrich. Paul is currently the front runner (not that it means much this early mind you), to my thinking. Definitely not a long shot.

He has a very strong argument in his favor this time. Everything he said about the economy, came to pass exactly as he said....loudly, repeatedly, and in print. Since he was right about what would happen, he is right about how to fix it. Unlike every other candidate, he has said what to do, loudly, specifically, repeatedly and in print. He is on the record as being right, in a highly specific way.

It's exactly this message, repeated over and over again that will put him in the white house.

I like this anoymous person. :)

We're losing in the comments thread, though. We need more defenders.

No doubt... especially on the "Obama is not a Socialist..." story at the WSJ:

I really don't get it. Ron Paul speaks the plain, simple, unvarnished truth... and a large percentage of the population seem to think he's a "kook" because he doesn't sound the same as all the slick, dime-a-dozen, BS-spouting politicians.

No we have such crappy political leaders. The media shape the opinions that are "correct" to hold, and the people elect the politicians who pander to these pre-formatted viewpoints. :(
