That was Sinclair Lewis, in his book It Can't Happen Here. You think 1984 is the sole blueprint for what's going on? Read that book.

1984 is about how they keep power. It Can't Happen Here is about how they get it.

I was at an open mic stand up comedy event in a progressive area. Holy cow. The "jokes" weren't funny, but I was laughing. The "comedians" fit your stereotype and mostly just screamed obscenities at the crowd. The open mic for poetry was similar.

There were some legit talented people, but a few times I thought, "Whoa, I thought people like this only existed on YouTube!"

Okay, but I'm just going to repeat myself. Do yourself a huge favor and read It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis. It's eighty years old, so it obviously won't work as an exact blueprint. Even so, the biggest difference I see so far is, he didn't envision both "sides" working toward the same goal. But they are.

They aren't beclowning "their" own "side" and pissing off huge numbers of libs (not hardly everyone who ever voted Democrat is in favor of butchering children) because they think it'll help them do what you think they're trying to do. Nobody's that stupid. They want a backlash. They're engineering a backlash. They want a backlash that they can ride like a wave to a magical situation where they don't have to worry about elections any more.

I used to think it was silly paranoia to think there might be paid Marxists posing as Ron Paul supporters on these discussion forums. Definitely not anymore.
