I comment the following on every article I see:

Ron Paul is right.

FEMA is a disaster compared to us naturally altruistic Americans. Don't underestimate grassroots altruism. Look at our fellow countrymen's response after Katrina, the Haiti earthquake, and the Japan earthquake. Also, if a private relief organization or insurance company does something wrong, they can be sued. If FEMA does something wrong, which is very often the case, there is no legal recourse for those hurt by their bureaucratic mess.

Furthermore, why should the responsible taxpayer who decides not to live in a disaster-prone area be forced to pay for others' bad decision to live in a hurricane-prone area?

I have to admit that FEMA's response to Katrina was very poor. BUT I have to wonder how FEMA's effectiveness was influenced by the GW Bush presidency? Specifically, that GWB possibly didn't care much for the citizens of Louisiana, because so many of them were Black.

Wingnut libertarians would just love to see another katrina disaster huh? Mr. Paul thinks that people are pourposly living in hurracane ridden areas to collect govt. handouts. What an fruitcake you are sir, and shameful too.

So let me guess, we also don't need the EPA, CDC, CIA, FBI, NSA, NTA, NASA, VA or the Supreme Court? TWIT!

Keep saying it. Right down to your eighth place finish in the polls.

And my personal favorite:

And the Titanic didn't need life boats ?

Just when you think this guy has a clue , he goes weird !

In the aftermath of Katrina several thousand convoyed towards new Orleans with boats and ice and water and food, chainsaws, tools and some pretty tough manpower driving those pickup trucks. They were halted by troopers under orders from FEMA. FEMA kept taking out the Sherrifs radio uplinks until they had to be threatened. They were responsible for the dangerous sewer pit at the football stadium. I think Americans can do better than any agency.

That was a great video! I love that the reporter didn't keep going with it, and he thought it was funny too.

Please post this everywhere you can...

Only 25 percent of the respondents to a survey conducted in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina identified government as their most important source of aid. Government relief to disaster victims is often less effective than aid provided by volunteers, non-profit organizations, and commercial enterprises, and it often facilitates corruption, encourages growth in disaster-prone areas, and crowds out self-help.

Yeah this is trending on twitter too... he better be prepped on an answer for it in the debate... all the libs and neo-cons are joining hands to condemn Paul for causing hurricanes and being insensitive now.

I've been fighting this one out all day with people and actually had some converts.

I saw that one and posted this

@RepAndrews Because FEMA is a failed beaurocracy that is a poster child for Big Govt waste, fraud, and abuse. #katrina

We recently had a disaster in our town with microbursts ripping off rooftops and tearing down power lines and thousands of trees. No government official came in to help out at all and we didn't wnat them to. The community cleaned it all up in about 3 days time and everyone helped out. If people had roof damage they went to their insurance agencies and not the government.

Exactly, the state and local government and the people should take care of it, call in the national guard if there is a manpower shortage, etc. Maybe even ask for federal funds with something as large as Katrina. But the last thing you need is FEMA. What a nightmare...

I agree wholeheartedly with RP on this, BUT

STUPID....STUPID...STUPID. Now is not the time. That isn't how you run a campaign, that isn't how you get people to vote for you. In the middle of the storm?? Really. Keep the mouth shut on stuff like that. People don't think logically, so don't do something that will evoke emotions in the middle of some sensational, overblown storm. Doesn't matter how we think, it is how other people think.

Horrible move by RP. I'm disappointed in the political prowess (or the lack thereof). Actually, I'm pissed.

A reporter probably asked him about it. They always ask him whatever they think will make him look most bad. They never ask him anything that will make him look good.

This kind of ignorance and stupidity permeates the majority of both parties, we've come a long way in the last 4 years but there is still a lot of work to do.
Counter acting all these years of government and media indoctrination is no small task.

As for this comment

And the Titanic didn't need life boats ?

Just when you think this guy has a clue , he goes weird !

Yeah that guy is a lost cause :D

Just saw "Ron Paul wants to cut FEMA" on the homepage of cnn under the latest news section. I totally agree that most people don't think logically and a great majority don't read and will only see the headline. :(

People are too stupid to realize that FEMA isn't the be end all for disaster relief. There have been countless organizations, people, churches, etc to help out before FEMA was ever around.

I get all the weather info I'll ever need from Weatherbug. It's free on my computer. No government involvement at ALL that I know of.

And in the event of a TRUE disaster where people's homes and lives are wrecked, Minnesotans are well known for coming together and rebuilding/ helping each other out.

I hope Ron Paul wants to ELIMINATE FEMA, not cut it.

It is incredible how every talking heads on the major networks is building up FEMA as such a great agency and needed. Then the next segment is about how Ron Paul wants to do away with it. They never talk about RonPaul except when they want to scare people. The Powers that be really fear RP. Unfortunately most people get their news from these sound bites and vote based on them.
