Ron Paul Delegates Set to Mount First Ballot Upset at GOP National Convention

Now that's the article i have been wanting to read. This is whats going to happen.

Legally, which would take precedent over the other, the RNC’s rules or state laws that bind delegates to vote for certain candidates on the first ballot of the convention?

As IVN’s Kymberly Bays recently reported, this exact question has already been resolved at the US Supreme Court level: the national party’s rules take precedence over state laws because as a private organization and free association of individuals, a political party has the constitutional right to set its own rules and state laws interfering with that private process violate a political party’s First Amendment rights.

I did a quick search and I didn't find anything, and it probably deserves its own thread, but a week and a half ago Obama signed into law HR 347. This legislation was introduced by Republican Tom Rooney of Florida and passed in the House with only 2 votes against and Ron Paul's abstention. This bill strengthens legislation passed during Clinton's administration and is a serious attack on our 1st amendment rights of speech, and suppresses political protest and activity which disrupts the orderly conduct of official functions. This is bad, really bad. Google this if you are unaware of what just happened. I'm predicting that the Republican Convention could be the first exercise of this power.

old news that this was gonna happen...basically, ANYWHERE in the US where a secret service agent is assigned, and in a certain area, anyone can be arrested for any type of disruption... the bill we all need to look for and be worried about is HR658 (i believe it is)..which has also been widely talked about but is the 30,000 drone over US airs, bill...that one is creepy..not sure when that is supposed to be signed, but i'm guessing he'll sneak it in december some time...

Romney has Secret Service protection now, so anywhere he is could be considered 'official grounds' under this amendment.

I'm all about this. Guess what establishment, we want Ron Paul, we have the numbers to vote in Ron Paul, and our investigation has determined that we are free to vote for who we want. If you don't like it, take it up with President Paul.

I'm truly convinced that there is no such thing as bound delegates now.

Just reading Rule 37 (yes 37), implies that regardless of state bindings, there CAN be a roll call for any delegate that disagrees with their state chairman's count. Of course Rule 38 strengthens this claim, since it denies any chairman from claiming all his delegates vote for a candidate.

absolutely...so if he gets glitter bombed again, or an RP supporter or anyone else for that matter disrupts in any way, they have the power to arrest...even yelling freedom, could be deemed disruptive... we just have to see what the limits are though...i don't know that anyone has been arrested on those grounds as of yet....in due time though...

"...the Paul campaign’s “guerrilla” delegate strategy of focusing on acquiring delegates ... If anything, the email signaled that the Paul campaign is more serious than ever about actually winning the Republican Party’s presidential nomination

Tampa, here we come!!!
