In an exclusive interview outside a Manchester polling place, Ron Paul lashed out at fellow Republicans for making unfair and ignorant attacks on Mitt Romney's business record.

"I think they're wrong. I think they're totally misunderstanding the way the market works," Paul told me. "They are either just demogoging or they don't have the vaguest idea how the market works."

Paul also came to Romney's defense for saying " I like to be able to fire people."

"I think they're unfairly attacking him on that issue because he never really literally said that," Paul said. "They've taken him way out of context. … He wants to fire companies."

In Paul's view, Romney is right to say that he created jobs by restructuring companies.

I take it we are not counting on votes from the 99% crowd?

What we're doing is standing behind the truth. LBOs are actually healthy for an economy, and Romney was indeed taken way out of context. I'm glad Paul isn't getting into the gutter with the rest of em.

And it attracts the Independent and Democrat voters in open primary states

Misleading headline though. "Paul attacks fellow GOP candidates' demagoguery" is more appropriate. He's not defending Romney's business practices but rather a basic free market principle.

Ron always speaks the truth. He doesn't have a PC filter like most politicians. It is what it is, for better and sometimes worse.

Please contact Yahoo! News about its title and have a great evening.

Front page of Yahoo! says

Ron Paul serves as unlikely defender of Mitt Romney

That shows true character.

I would expect nothing less from Dr. Paul. The other candidates are desperate and have resorted to demagoguery and taking quotes out of context. They sound like anti-capitalist liberal leftists.

Yeah but if the only people who vote for Ron Paul in open states are people that frequent this place, his chances are not that good

I agree-he is not a slick politician and that it usually a good thing

Yep, politicking is not his MO. Rand has learned to think about how he is perceived by the various blocs of voters; Ron could give a shit, which makes him particularly endearing.

Perhaps he doesn't realize how brain dead America is? To him, it's like "why don't these people get liberty and freedom?! It's so simple!". But to others who can only think in soundbites, they only hear "Ron defends that rich bastard Romney!"

Well stated +1

This. It's a very sad day indeed when these kind of liberal, progressive talking points do damage in a Republican PRIMARY. It's absurd. Gingrich, Perry and Huntsman are once and for all shown to be big government liberals with their comments (I haven't heard Santorum on Bain Capital yet- though there's plenty of other evidence of his big government leanings). Where Paul and Romney part company economically is over bail outs and monetary policy.

Anyway- good for Dr. Paul standing up for Mitt here. Hopefully puts a fork in the stupid Dick Morris notion that libertarians are liberal democrats or whatever the hell he says...
