Ron Paul defends Romney

He should have. He should have spun it against HUntsman, since they seem to be fighting for the same undecided voters.

Hahaha, yeah, he should have. He did in a way, just without naming names...but naming names would have been much more effective.

When the other candidates were slinging sh*t at Ron over the newsletters, Mitt said he took Ron's word at saying he didn't write them. He was very classy about it when he could've piled on, so I'm glad Ron is returning the favor. We need to knock these other posers out of contention before we battle Mitt, and even then, should have a clean fight (imo).

I notice how Romney always intently listens to Ron at the debates. I am glad there is a little civility shining thru it does make it much easier to take.

Ron and Romney could smear Obama

I heard that Romney is going to endorse Ron Paul and ask to be his VP. He's reading Revolution: A Manifesto before he starts reading Murray Rothbard.

Ugh. Why Ron, why? You didn't owe Romney a damn thing, as this smarmy liar has been constantly saying things like you're not unelectable in this election cycle. He's the same guy that said you deserved to be laughed at in 2007.

Romney is toxic, and 70% of GOPers aren't yet sold on him. There is nothing to gain from this from Paul's perspective since anything that ties him to Romney will not reflect well. This nonsense, no matter if it was fair or not to Romney, is Romney's problem to solve. Doesn't the campaign want Romney to take a hit for a change? Anything that would have swayed some undecided voters from Romney is a great thing. I don't care if the issue was about the type of mustard he puts on his hamburger, if it gets people away from Romney it's a good thing.

Ron didn't have to bad mouth him, but he shouldn't have said anything in defense of him either. Bad decision, and this is gonna cause some unfair blowback in Ron's direction as the media uses it in defense of Obama-Romney. The one thing we don't need is undecided voters who vaguely follow politics thinking that Ron isn't so much different from Romney.

We're going to need Romney supporters when we win the nomination. :D

I get the feeling that Ron would prefer to see Romney get the nomination than any of the other scumbags, just in case Ron doesn't get the nomination. He knows more about his opponents than we do. And I trust his judgement.

The comments on the Drudged ABC article are fantastic!! The Romney folks now L-O-V-E Ron Paul. They will now be listening to him with an open mind from here on.

Nah. I think he was impressed that Romney deferred to him about the Constitution question. And I also think he's right - Romney's comments have been taken out of context.

Rush was bashing Newt and Santorum this morning for using attacks out of the "leftist playbook" and democrat party to attack capitalism when they were admonishing Romney.

By defending Romney Paul gets to both bash the "not-Romney" opponents and look good with the GOP establishment.

It's certainly a sincere move by Paul because he's correct and believes what he's saying, but it also happens to be politically opportunistic. If the goal is to isolate Romney this accomplishes that while also winning points with party line republicans.

The fact is, the comment that Romney made was that he wanted to be able to fire his insurance company if they were not providing good value. And the other candidates were taking those comments out of context to say that Romney liked to be able to "fire people". And Ron just defended saying that Mitt was taken out of context, and then Ron went on to say that reorganization of companies was a healthy thing in the economy...then he went on to show several things (such as foreign policy) that he and Mitt were not on the same page on.

Ron totally won on this, as it showed how authentic he is and that he will support someone when they are right, even thought POLITICAL CALCULATION would dictate that he join in the attacks on Romney. this defense shows the type of person that Ron is - I consider it a big win for us.

I am not basing my opinion just on this incident. Ron Paul has gone after all of his opponents except for Romney. And he even said Romney is a nice person when he was on Jay Leno. I think Ron likes Romney better than the others, and he probably has a good reason. If Ron is as special and honorable as we think he is, then it would make sense for him to want his favorite candidate (besides himself) to do better than the most disgusting candidates. I could be wrong, but I think it is a plausible theory.

You could be right.
