A top campaign official for Ron Paul’s presidential campaign says there’s “no chance” that the Texas Republican congressman will endorse Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson for president over presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney.

“No,” campaign chairman Jesse Benton said in a response to a question from The Daily Caller about whether Paul would discuss the possibility of an endorsement with Johnson during a conference call with reporters on Tuesday. “There’s no chance of that.”

Johnson, the former Republican governor of New Mexico, endorsed Paul for president in 2008.

While that’s good news for Romney, Benton said he does “not believe that that is likely” Paul will endorse Romney, though he kept the option open.

Johnson: NO
Romney: Maybe

Am I missing something here? No chance of endorsing the Libertarian candidate, but he might endorse F$%*# Romney?

"No Chance" for Gary
"Unlikely" for Romney

I know not everyone likes Gary... but Romney has more of a chance of getting endorsed than Gary? lol

It would go completely against the long term strategy of restoring the GOP to its founding principles to endorse a third party candidate.

Not another announcement from BENTON. How about letting mf'n Ron Paul speak for himself???

I think Benton wants a deal and if he could write Romney the endorsement would give it for the right consideration. I think Ron is more likely, even if he gets influence or whatever, to just not endorse elsewhere. Being Ron, he will say what he thinks, and he thinks Romney is maybe better than Obama on taxes, a little. (Marginally, I think he has said in the past)

But I guess Benton is saying there is no purpose to be served by endorsing Johnson, and I agree.

i sure do not need ron paul telling me who i will vote for. Johnson 2012 over the obama-lite!

Frankly, I think Gary Johnson gets a horrible rap here, and the issues some have here with foreign policy are pretty much unfounded. I will be casting my vote for him if Ron Paul is not the GOP nominee. Even if Ron Paul was VP, I'd still vote Gary Johnson.

^This right here.

Why would the campaign encourage people to become GOP precinct delegates and then turnaround and endorse/run third party?

The demands at the convention better damn well be really significant then (dare I say revolutionary). If they don't cater to us in a big way something significant needs to occur by the official campaign that sends shockwaves through the GOP. If they cow-tow and lay down for insignificant party platform declarations (which are followed anyway) or a 30 second speech I will take my activism elsewhere. I will reserve judgement and keep plugging away until the end, but I am surely not alone in my sentiment.
